Hello folks, After this years Le Mans i have really got the Porsche bug again so im ditching the merc and getting my self a proper car again. I went to look at an 89 s2 and noticed that at certain revs(low) that the engine was vibrating from the front. So much so that you could feel the car shake!!! Could this simply be an engine mount? or something to do with the balance shaft? It was a nice car with only three previous owners, full service etc but had over 180,000 miles on the clock. Also, im undecided whether to go for a s2 3.0l or a 951 which would obviously be older. I will be using the car every day so im thinking a s2 might be a better option. Any views and opinions would be great. Cheers, Stu |

Firstly hi & welcome. When had the car last had belts done, it could very well be the balance shaft belt has skipped a tooth or more. Not unusual & needs looking at, if the balance belt comes off then it invariably pulls the cam belt off & bang! ![]() |

I hope this is right - .... and if the cam belt has jumped then the balance shafts are out of sync, which can cause vibration, which in turn will snap the oil feed pipes, which will cause big problems. Like I say, I think I'm right. Better get it checked out. |

Hello Jim and thanks for the welcome. It had apparently been done last year with the timing belt at its big service!!! I think il give this one a miss anyway as it had some tin worm around the passenger side a post bottom. Plenty more to see as the market seems to be flooded with them at the mo!! Thanks chaps ![]() Stu |

Hello, Look at as many as you can & don't worry about milage at all. Condition is all that counts. If the moneys been spent these cars can run for ever. (Almost.) In fact if you find a low mileage one it may well have been clocked. Don't rule out the twin cam s or lux. There are a few that have had total rebuilds & they can be a bargain. ![]() |

I went to have a look at another today. A 91 S2. Rotten sills, very noisey fuel injector, rust in the rear arch seams, dings and scratches all over it ![]() ![]() This is going to be a long search!!! ![]() |

You need to be picky, doing the sills on a 944 is big money & can also point to loads of other hidden rust problems. |

In theory the arms should relocate in the sunroof when speed exceeds 6MPH but mine never has. |
