Kingsdoken, Saw you car at Hatton, very nice ! i would liked to have bumped into you for a chat, anyway oil, i used about half a litre on the way down (240 miles) topped up at Hatton, checked tonight and not a drop used, i probably drove harder on the way back. Took the 220 to LM Classic and a litre required after 750 miles, yet no use on the way back ? Must be something to do with magnetic poles as it is fine when heading north ![]() No leaks ? |

See the Hartech comment on page 2 http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... &mid=72634 However, it sounds like your max to min is more than 1 litre! |

What grade of oil are you using in the car? The older the car the thicker the oil needed (because all the clearances increase and this also increases the bye products of combustion leaking into the oil system and contaminating it) and gradually we find semi synthetics or even fully mineral oil can be better as the engines age (not seeking a debate on this - just stating what we have discovered over the years - different opinions help yourself). Also if a dual port waste gate or a waste gate bye pass/bleed valve has been fitted or it has been chipped (basically anything that increases boost pressure) then more pressure will pass the pistons and increase the amount of oil mist that the breather system has to deal with, inevitably burning a little more than it should standard. 1000 miles/litre is not excessive for this age and mileage friven resonably quickly. Hartech comment above I will check the airbox and oil grade tomorrow, I do have a DPW but only run it at 0.8 bar I have been driving it fairly hard down to portsmouth and back .......on the back roads ![]() |

What brand and grade oil do you have in there? If your car has been stood up over winter, initial rapid oil consumption need not be something for concern. Also these engines will use more oil when driven hard above 4000 rpm, due to the mist of whipped up oil in the crankcase, especially with the 3.0 engines where the crankshaft throw and therefore whipping up of the engine oil is greater. However, it could be said that one litre (min to max on the dipstick) in 1000 miles is not too excessive, personally I would prefer to see less, but Porsche originally specified 1 litre in 1000km, so its within spec of not warranting an engine replacement if it was a new 944 S2 back when it was within the factory warranty. Let us know how the oil consumption goes in the next 1000 miles, I bet it improves. |
