Post subject:  944 won't start!!! :(

Hey guys,
Well I've run into a problem and any help would be much appreciated. I have an '88 944 that has always started fine, but now it won't. Here's a brief background: Today I decided to clean down the engine after repairing a power steering pot leak. Hit it with the pressure washer and then started it up, was fine. Started it again after around 10 mins and again was fine. So I then went off and did some other things , came back to the car and decided to see if the car was chipped, as stated by the previous owner. So, I removed the ecu, had a look inside and it wasn't! Anyways I plugged it back in and now the car won't start. Now I must admit that as I havn't been using the car since I bought it I have had the battery disconnected, and totally forgot that it was connected when I removed the ecu and and re-fitted it. It was only after re-fitting and went to connect it that I remembered I had already done this to start it after the wash down!!!! This is my second 944 and on my last I fitted a new chip myself with no problems, and have experience with other ecu's that I've worked with. Now I am seriously worried I have fried the ECU! The car turns over and is getting fuel, and the rev counter bounces so is getting some kind of RPM signal. Whether some water has got in somewhere while it was stood or the ECU is fried I don't know! Can anyone suggest some tests I could do to check that its either water in the sensors/plugs or the actual ECU. The car has an immobilizer fitted that may have stopped power going to the ecu when removing and fitting anyway but again can't be sure. Any help would be somewhere to start as I'm really gutted! I can also use a multimeter so any pin out test would be fine too.
Cheers
