Hi all, been awhile sense Iv been on here. Hi 2 all the new owners.

Basically cars been on sworn 4 last 8 months due 2 a lack off funds. The power steering bracket broke. Result is the belts been striped off again. This be the 3rd time in 2 years.

Anyway Iv sorced a new Pumpbracket and am considering doing the replacement myself.

But if not will need 2 get the car toed 2 a mercanic or get a mobile unit 2 the car. Which will prob be about £800.

Been looking 4 a turbo or s2 that I could get cheap that requires parts I all ready own 2 make nice again, from my own car. E.g suspension /wheels/ interior. Bumper lights that sort off thing. But I don't have the space 2 brake or strip down one car let alone two.

I'm also toying with the idea off just swapping the engine over?

Currently 944s 2.5 16v. And I'm thinking possibly s2 or 968.

Now I understand I would lack the more powerfull brakes and clutch.
But what I'm wondering is? What would the power delivery be like with the 2.5 S gear box and would it just kill it?

Is an engine replacement easyer the doing the belts?

My engines had a new head gasic, been re skim and boars cleaned. New cam chain and tensioner, new seals and new belts and water pump. But did have an oil leak and pressure
issues b4 the lay up.

Thanks 4 your time
Terry

Can't offer any help I'm afraid but if you want to get rid of the S engine I know of a nice home for it ;)

A 3.0 with a 2.5 gearbox wont kill the box and would give a very quick car, with its lower final drive ratio, (most of the gears are pretty well the same), clutch should be ok too, but as you say the brakes would need uprating

Thanks. Would the 2.5 S gear box with 968 or s2 quicker then the correct Gear box? Noticeable faster? What else would be needed? Ecu and loom? Exhausted ?

In the ideal world I would make one car from two selling the spears. But I just haven't found a location/space where that would be possible. But I would prob keep use the new shell as my 2.5 sills are in need. All thou u wouldn't no from the outside and recent respary.

Get a soiled faster 944 turbo/s2 inneed off tarting up or a smashed up rotten one and keep the 2.5.

Or just keep throwing money at the one Iv all ready got.

The shorter (2.5) gearbox will allow the car to accelerate faster but rev higher than a 3.0 at any given speed, so would be probably be slower at the very top end.

With an S2 engine, the loom and exhaust should be ok I think, ECU would be required.

A 968 would need everything I think.

I'd try and sort the existing one, having put an '86 2.5 8V in an '83 car and bought a 2.7 with similar thoughts to you, about making 1 from 2, the whole range is so similar, but so different in detail!
