The Turbo… a 1986 220, pretty much as it came from the factory, with the exception of having a cream leather interior fitted. Standard Teledial wheels, Guards Red, much repainted, Red not Pink!
The car was used on the PCGB stand for MPH at Earls Court a couple of years ago as a good solid example of a 944 Turbo, and then valued around £8k....
I think it’s best in terms of Concour has been second in the Dorset regional street class. I was told it would have won had it been entered in eth 944 Register concour two years ago…It had new tyres all round last year – Pirellis – not every-ones choice I know...It has been maintained by my partner, though as mileage has been low this has been little more than a couple of belt changes....The car has 129k on the clock and is Garaged....Just passed Mot with nothing needed doing. :D

The bad news is that it is registered as a CAT C… this was down to damage to the drivers door and front wing, believe it or not, enough to write it off… no damage to the pillar, sill, or anything else – just purely unbolt old panels, and bolt on new… the insurance money allowed all the other minor bodywork issues to be dealt with at the same time.

There is a piece of trim that needs attention – I haven’t looked at it in detail yet, on the front nr-side wing (the black trim at the bottom). The offside front arch liner has road paint on it (always has) – we have a replacement for that but have never got round to fitting it.
There is a minor power steering leak I believe, that I haven’t got round to tracing....

Only other thing is that the number plate on the car I will be keeping as this is private to me...
£5,000....
Any questions please ask,..or if interested PM me.

With respect:-
128K over 22 years = <6K miles per annum what do you expect a 22 year old car to do? Also I've proved with mine more use =good, little use = Very bad.
Cat C who cares, buy it on condition not an HPI check, it could have had similar damage 10 years ago & wouldn't have been written off & no one would be any wiser. Very common comment but not thought through.
£5K interesting debate, but difficult to judge, personally I'd again go by condition NOT what it's perceived as worth.

Still convinced you are looking for some nirvana Pauly, that doesn't exist

£5k seems at the lower end of the turbo price range, i check pistonheads and ebay and most have higher price tags, a broken tailgate will cat c/d most 944's these days

Yup that's my point, I saw a lovely 944 around 88 on a private plate, immaculate, one lady owner which had nudged a post in the snow. Foglight, bumper corner & edge of wing. Recorded Cat C by ins co. Lady had bought it back to get it fixed privately.

A few years ago one of my works colleagues had his 6 month old Alfa 75 rear ended by some dozy bint who hadn't seen him, he was doing 10MPH she was doing 65ish! That got rebuilt but only after it had been put around 3-4 bodyshops. They made a fantastic job but later on in life people would have a shock if they'd known that earlier in it's life it had been 5 foot shorter!

Doesn't seem too cheeky a price to me. These cars a fandabydozy, will do huge mileages and are very very underrated. Don't forget that the equivalent 911, if such a thing exists, would be twice the price nowadays. When new the differential was nothing like that. So £5K seems reasonable enough if the car has been maintained.

In this case it would appear to be economical write-off rather than structural, therefore not so relevant.

Cat C who cares.

Do you really believe people don't care that an engineer is of the opinion that a car has suffered extensive damage ?,

It exists allright, I just don't fancy paying £10-£12k for it.

I don,t know the car or the seller, and I'm not interested in an early Turbo. Good luck with the sale Claire, and if you want me to delete my opinions here just say so.

Nope, Cat C is beyond economic repair. In other words parts & labour cost plus incidentals such as hire car(TO THE INSURANCE Co.) exceed 60% of value of car

No, no one said delete it, people were just pointing out your comments in the circumstances (although widely held) were incorrect.

Hi..
Everyone is entiled to there opinion, you would have to see the car and judge then what she is like and i think she is worth that, even though the cat c is only economic repair not strucual and really a case of a new door and a respray..which will put people off..but you wouldn`t know it was done if you saw it in the flesh.
I put the car on here thinking i may get some interest but will probaly advertise on piston heads...the reason im selling is i have a 924 cab which will soon take my prority and unfortunatly this has to go which makes me sad :(
you don`t know me but i am a PCGB member have been for some time.

Dont worry about it being a cat C/D recorded car , you should really consider the quality of its repair and overall condition before anything else.

Ive purchased many damaged cars in the past and paid for them to be repaired myself, usually saving a fortune over buying the same specced and condition car elsewhere. Selling one on afterwards can be a little slow but ive never had anyone come to look at a car thats recorded and not buy it, all because of its condition and repair quality.

My 944 has come from a salvage auction and is recorded cat C, however it only cost me £320 after auction fees and paying for it to be delivered!

As i dont need to have it on the road straight away i can look around for parts at my leisure and already have a pair of wings (only needed one but had to get them at £46 the pair). It does always take a while to get a car back on the road because of the odd part you might find hard to get hold of but thats half the fun, hunting for a bargain!

Claire do you have any pics of the damage before it was repaired or bills/recipts of the work carried out?

They always help to sell a damaged car on as the buyer can see for themselves what the damage was and what has been done to repair it.

Also do you have paperwork you get to say its been vic tested (all cat C cars need this check before being allowed back on the road, and check the chassis numbers to make sure its the car you say it is).
