I have had my car for a few days now and after driving it for a few miles it has developed the occasional clunk from the steering. I am told the drive from the bulkhead to the rack with the 2 universal joints on it is very susceptible to wear and they don't last long. Is there any way of checking this item. If it is this can anyone recommend the best place to source one from. Thanks |

Let the car cool down - shaft is very close to the exhaust! Top u/j is near clutch reservoir, very easy to see, grab the shaft below the joint and pull, push and twist, I'm pretty sure you'll feel some movement. I've just changed mine, got one from a local breaker - £15. Beware there are several different lengths, you will need one 12" between the bottom each "U" for the S2. |

Hi, thanks for the response,is there meant to be any play in the joints? A9XXC wrote: Let the car cool down - shaft is very close to the exhaust!

Not really, 1 mm play is certainly noticeable, giving a slight vagueness around straight ahead and maybe a little jerkiness. |

I seem to have some vagueness around the centre when driving,so I'll try the checks and see what I get. Can you recommend a good source for a replacement either used or new? Thanks |

The part is called: Steering shaft Part No. 945.347.027.00. Costs about £100 from OPC Not too bad to fit if you can get good access under the car... |
