hi folks,

new member here, long time lurker..

i have recently aquired a drop dead gorgeous Star Ruby 944 S2 cabriolet. i am seeking any information on the car, it appears to be a very very rare 944..

information on this car is scarce and all i have managed to glean from the internet is from german websites/forums through google search and images..

Star Ruby is like a deep pink.. the paint code is LM3B..

this is not my car, but it looks somthing like this..

these are not my pics.. but from a german meet years ago..

there are two Star Ruby's this pic..

you'll either love it or hate it.. but i think it looks awesome..

i have found only little information and and looking to see if any of you enthusiasts here are aware of any background to this car model..

this is what i have managed to find out, it is conflicting info and unconfirmed as true though..

*there were only a handful (5 or 6) and were promotional only cars.
*they were limited to 100 models.
*they had Star Ruby (Sternrubin) paint with blue hood and blue leather.
*one has been seen with black hood and black leather in Bonn, Germany.
*there are two in Hamburg, Germany.
*1991 cars.

the only ones ive seen through searching online have blue hood/leather..the car i have is RHD and it has black hood and black Turbo leather and aircon.. perhaps specced up even further as it was the only UK promo car?

any infomation on this model is greatly appreciated..! i'll get some pics up soon..

many thanks for reading!

Used to see one of these in Hamstreet , near Ashford ,Kent , but was 6 or 7 years ago.As I recall that was on a 'H ' plate , so would tie in with being a 91 model.Apart from that , can't help - sorry!!

thank you, that is helpful information. we now know there (or were) are at least two in the UK as the one i have is a J registration.

whether the one you saw was blue or black or lhd/rhd is unconfirmed..? maybe you can remember?

i believe there is no record kept of production numbers in relation to colours, is that true? i cant find any information to the contrary..

The S2 cab was launched in 1989 and ended in 1992 with the launch of the 968.

More likely to be a run out colour to try and sell a few more, this would explain why there are different colour hood and interior combinations.

The interior is called Sport (large bolsters) and would have been an option.

The colour is called 'Rubystone' my 92 968 is that colour, originally from Singapore, I dont think there are many Rubystone cars in the UK I have seen a 911 with the same finish, I understand there are only two 968's in the UK in this colour.

Star Ruby and Rubystone are the same colour code.

There was a similar colour in the 80's called Velvet Red.

There used to be an ex-pat who lived in Portugal with a lefthand drive Rubystone Cabrio. He drove it over a couple of times to the PCGB Frontrunner meetings. Haven't seen him for a few years now

good info thanks..

rubystone is the exact smae colour, though when applied to the 944 s2 cab, it was called star ruby (sternrubin). it is listed alongside rubystone and shares the same paint code.

velvet red is not quite there.. it is a darker shade and metallic.. ive had a 2.7lux in velvet red before, it is a very nice shade, but is a head turner like the in-your-face star ruby..

Yes I also have a 924 in Garnet Red, which was in the 84,85,86 range of 24/44 cars, a metallic sheen to it also.Image

Hi guys...new to the forum. I have a Rubystone Red (Star Ruby) 944s2 cab, which I have owned since 1999. It is an LHD (non turbo), Blue Leather, Blue hood, and A/C from Germany orig., where I believe it was owned by someone in the services????, brought back to Birmingham area circa 1996 and registered with the DVLA on 1st Jan 1996 as a 1990 car where it acquired its current Irish reg. mark of NOI 9588.....it ended up in a dealers in Birmingham where it was picked up by an ex pat from Caan France, who bought it and took it over there for his wife. They divorced and the car was bought by a guy in Cambridge in 1998. He bought it in Caan and drove it back. I bought it from him in December 1999 and have had it in Scotland (Summer use only) ever since. Had only 84,000km when I bought it and now only 108,000km, not much for a 22 year old car.
Don't have any photos on this PC, but can post some later. Just MOTd with no fault found...again.

Lets get in touch.

regards,

David

Hi I have seen this one in the past....it has not been in Kilmarnock for about ten years though ? (the article and photo are quite old).....

But I still have mine's.......not used last Summer but still running well, when the Battery gets a full charge !

Now done 128,000 km

Interested in getting to know anything further about "our" cars but as you will have found information is very thin on the ground.

The colour WAS called Star Ruby in 944s, and altered to Rubystone Red on 968s.
