I've just got my 944 S2 and I'm going through the basics. The car has the standard D90 wheels with
205/55 zr16 Michelin Pilot SX's on the front and 225/50 of the same on the rear.
When I checked the pressures they were all set at 26psi, but in the manual it is quoting 36psi.
Can anyone give me some direction as to what is the most suitable pressure.
Thanks

On a snooker table smooth autobahn, then 36 psi would be fine, I run the 968 slightly lower, 34 rear 32 front, I like the smoother ride on rough roads, I also found that the rears heated up and beyond 36psi on long motorway journeys, so went through a set of rears tires pretty quickly!

I run 32PSI all round on my S2 suspension/tyred Lux, I find it well balanced. Never had any overheating probs with tyres, even with all our holiday stuff onboard.

My copy of the Porsche Workshop manual states the cold pressures for a 944 S2 as follows:

Up to end of Model Year (MY) '89 2.5 bar front, 2.5 bar rear.
MY '90 2.5 bar front, 2.5 bar rear (optional: 3.0 bar rear).
MY '91 2.5 bar front, 2.5 bar rear.

2.5 bar = 36 psi. 3.0 bar = 43.5 psi

Since Porsche generally know what they're doing, I'd stick with whichever of those settings is appropriate. The previous owner of my car (1990 S2) used to favour 2.0 bar front, 2.5 bar rear. When I bought it off him the tyres showed classic wear symptoms of under-inflation.

I use 2.25 and 2.5 on my 2.7 with 968 suspension with the same tyres as you.

I run the same pressures as Jim on my S2. 32 PSI all round.

I have been running 26psi all round on my S2 which I have had for two years.
Tyres are still in good shape and I never have any problems with then so far.
