Hi all, problems with my 1986 944 Lux...car has been going like a dream...until today when it developed a metalic rattle/clunking from the rear. most noticable in 2nd and 3rd around 2,000rpm and under strain. stops when knocked out of gear and increases relative to speed. all oils etc changed in October at a full service. any ideas you 944 Gurus ? plan on taking it to a garage tomorrow but would like to have an idea what i could be dealing with..and could pretend i know a bit.
thanks
Alex

CV joint would be first thought, they can make various noises clip clop ones are more common. The Driveshaft could be loose, not uncommon for the bolts to come undone especially if they've been reused.

Yup, go gently & it should be OK, I'd have a look under the back to see if it is anything obvious though. The bolts falling out is a real possible scenario though.
