Post subject:  electric seats on 944
Hi all,
The problem is that when i push the seat buttons the seat will go back and not forward and with the second switch... up and not down. I have taken the drivers seat out and changed the connections over on the seat motors and then the seats will go forward and not back, and down not up!
ie ... the motor works fine and nothing is stuck - except for me!
To me - it seems that its the switch thats causing the problem, but all the wires are connected and feels like the switch is working and makes a switchy type noise.

Certainly sounds like the switch
To start with disconnect them and test with a continuity tester to see what is "making" and what is not - they can be carefully taken apart and cleaned and re assembled without to much difficulty, just watch out for little bits springing out. Sometimes the contacts can get displaced or stuck.

im new to all this forum stuff and the porsche 944 but i really like it.
Ive pulled the switch apart and i think the problem is that the v shaped copper contacts are squashed which doesnt allow the switch to do its switch thing. Ive bent them back so will now clean up and get all excited about trying it out. thanks. you put me in the right direction

wasnt as easy as i was hoping. Had to clean out absolutely everything and take everything apart to get to the contacts etc and putting the switch back together is a bit of a ball ache with those ballbearings , but she works. Hope this is helpful for anybody else, and thanks again :)

I must give this a go to get rid of the same problem on my Lux. is it 'easy' to get the switch apart?

i took the seat out and had it sitting on the kitchen table. there were two screws on the cover plate and one behind that. i took the cable fastners off the underneath of the seat to give me more lead space and pulled the switches out of their recess. there are four lugs holding the switch together. two on opposite sides. You can basically push one in and then put a screw driver inbetween the gap created and they will quite easily split. As mentioned in previous comment - there are two ballbearings and two springs that could jump out so be careful when prising apart. good luck putting it back together as getting the ballbearings to sit in situ whilst trying to get the springs to sit on top of them without moving requires a lot of patience

My seats each have 2 4-way switches which weren't working properly. Having taken the switches apart and cleaned them up I found it impossible to get the 4 ballbearings back in place all at once, even grease and glue didn't work. I didn't want to go to the bother of taking the seats out so had to look for another solution. I bought some map pins (the ones with a small coloured plastic ball on the end) and cut the pointed end down so that it would sit inside the spring. I put a bit of blue tack inside the spring and pushed the pin into it holding the plastic ball in place at the end of the spring. You can then easily push the switch cover back onto the switch because you can hold it horizontally without everything falling all over the place. I did this early last year and it has worked perfectly since.

Grease worked fine for me. Back together in seconds. Admittedly 2 way switches.
