Hey all, I'm new to the boards, and new to Porsche. Fancied a 944 for ages and finally took the plunge - picked up a 944 for £800 on eBay -yes I'm fairly mad! Its a 1989 2.7 litre version in Guards Red. Mechanically it seemed good (drove it 200 miles home from buying it with no problems), interior isn't good and it needs a respray due to some numpty having left it under a heavy car cover which has rubbed off all the paint on the edges. Anyway work is progressing on the car (I've never done anything like this but my pops is helping and he is fairly mechanically minded), I've setup a blog about it which you can find here: http://944-anotherdayinparadise.blogspot.com/ Hopefully might be interesting to read for some of you, (I'm told it makes for good reading if you are on the 'throne' - smartphone/laptop required though!). I'm sure I'll have a few questions along the way (I can think of about 5 already!) and will be looking to join the club (and probably the 'official' Porsche owners club) once the car gets a bit nearer to getting back on the road. My target is to drive it to this years Le Mans 24 hour race, though I suspect it won't be resprayed by then. Look forward to chatting over problems and hopefully meeting some members if you do events etc. Ryan |

Try the alternator or get a inductive multimeter with a clasp to see which wire is getting all the juice. Alasdair |

I've got roughly 100ma going to the window winders, about 150ma going to the central locking circuit plus another roughly 200ma going somewhere! Going to remove and clean all the earths and then see what is what. Is there an easy way to check if the alternator is causing the drain, I'm guessing it isn't on a fuse? I've got the airbox off and radiator out so got lots of room at the moment! |

I've just had a read of your blog. Good to see someone else who's spent the winter doing up a Guards (ish) Red 944! I saw you mentioned water in the boot - have you checked the routing of the drain pipes under the boot catches. Mine were out so draining straight into the boot. Could be an easy fix... Andy |

Hi and welcome to the Forum Sounds like a lot of work and good luck getting to Le Mans. Been meaning to get down there again myself but haven't managed in the 944. With the rear draining problem, might also be worth checking the glue around the glass to the frame. Sometimes these leak and have to be removed and re-sealed. Next job on mine. |

I recognise this car, It was bought from London. It Was on ebay for a while. First time it sold to a timewaster. Second time it was back on and sold to you as I as going to bid on it but missed it! It's had around 18 owners but no bad history records. Seems a reasonable buy for the money, especially a 2.7. |

Glovebox light is another favourite for battery drain. Rich |

Welcome from another £800 2.7 Ebay owner! This is my second 944 over the past 4 years, great cars and both forums are great - lots of us are on both -and everything said above is spot on, all you can do is work methodically. Good luck Mike |
