Post subject:  Rear Wiper Motor fitment

Hi all,

Had a look at trying to refit my rear wiper motor today.

Problem is that the motor has a metal plate with 2x prongs on it and the rear hatch has a couple of brackets with screw holes in them.

The hatch was replaced a couple of years ago due to damage -so there is obviously a difference in hatch's.

Easiest solution I can see would be to change the metal plate that is attached to the motor - or is that too simple

If it is that straight forward does anyone have a faulty motor that I can just have the plate off :D

I should have one, will have a look tomorrow. Sounds like you have a late car with an early motor.

Hi Alasdair,

I have an early '82 car which had a replacement rear hatch fitted about 2x years ago. At the time it fitted and was in good condition. Then the car went into storage. It is only recently that I have had the time to start doing the odd jobs that have been mounting up. I didn't even give a thought to the fact that the rear motor mounting might be different when looking for rear hatch.
As per previous post I have my cars original motor - is it just a case of swapping the metal plate over or are the actual motors different?

Thanks,

Jeff

Swapping the metal plate over is easy, but I think the late and early type motors had different spindle sizes...

Early cars have 2 pins into frame - later ones have 2 flat plates about 3 times the size.
