Post subject:  Anyone selling a o/s door handle?

Hi. Went to get in the 944 tonight and the latch on the drivers side handle snapped off! I'm now locked out of the car as this is the only lock I had a key too. Does anyone have a spare handle to fit an 85 car for sale ? Additionally, has anyone got any clever ideas how to break into a 944 without smashing the window! (yes constable this really is my car!)
Thanks Paul

The RAC use an inflatable rubber cushion that they slide between the door and frame, and pump it up to gently bend the door. Then you can use a coathanger on the door handle.

The other old trick is half a tennis ball over the lock, and hit it hard. But that won't work on the 944, because there's too many awkward shapes to get a good seal around the lock.

Good news, I got into the old girl thus morning, stupidly easy and makes you realise how easy the 944 is to break into. I won't divulge the technique though incase someone undesirable reads this. Just need a handle now!

I have a Drivers side handle.......just the casting, link etc not the barrel or switch etc....but you can transfer the bits from your old one.......from a 1991 car but I think the main body is the same :?

Hi, thanks for the replies everybody, it is the actual latch that has snapped of so I need a complete handle. As for passenger side, will that fit on the drivers door? Excuse my ignorance, but what is a Soils cast handle?
Being an early car,
I think the handle is the same as a 924 aswell so might be able to source one of them?
The centre caps on the wheels are plain black.

Yeah the pansangers side will fit, soilded means there no plastic in between like on the vw and earlier 944. The only handles I believe are set side are the soiled type with the Porsche inscription

I think the Porsche uses a similar lock mechanism to the mk2 golf gti, a lot of people used to fit 944 handles in place of the standard vw ones. Remember locking myself out of the golf when fitting a new wing mirror. Only took my dad 5 minutes to get the door unlocked. Made me question what he actually got up to when he was younger! But yes, would recommend an immobiliser and/or alarm if you would prefer your car not to go walkabouts!

Got myself a handle today so I would like to fit it. I went to change the lock cylinder over and removed the philips screw on the back of the cylinder, but that's as far as I can get. Does anyone know the proceedure for removing the cylinder from the handle?
Thanks
Paul

You will need to put the key in the slot to extract the barrel.

Only done this on a later car but can not beleive it has changed much.........insert the key to align all levers in the barrel remove the screw this releases the cam and spring...note the spring position..... remove it....push the barrel out.....

spring can go either way up......put 1 leg on spring against the stop and then lock the other leg over the other side of the stop against the spring tension...so they have crossed over...

the leg on the cam goes inbetween the 2 spring legs
