my 944 S2 speedo stops and starts intermittently at different speeds. Is it replacement speedo time? Or is this a simple fix?

Thanks,

I have the same problem but as my mpg meter also has the same problem - I think its probably the speed sender rather than an instrument problem per se. Haven't had a chance to look yet - anyone know where the sender/transducer is?

Doesn't the speedo signal come from one (or more...?) of the ABS sensors on an S2...?

Sender unit on the g'box I believe.

I had this problem on my S2 when i bought it 5 years ago. it was the sender on the gearbox. it was a simple and suprisingly cheap fix.

ok, well not quite perfectly. 30mph on the dial is more like 36/37 ?!

Most manufacturers normally over-estimate, but you say yours is reporting slower than your actual speed?

yes, 30mph on the clocks is more like 40mph.

I was thinking of just removing the perspex and twisting the needle backwards by the right amount.

Seems more like a bodge than a fix though.

You might find it's a non-linear fault, so you'd only be making it accurate for 30mph. In other words, it could be out by a percentage, not by a fixed speed. So your sensor might be putting out too much voltage for the speedo, or perhaps the speedo is also worn out, and responding weakly.
