Post subject: | ABS System Help |
Hi all I am looking to get my 87 Turbo back on the road over the next few months. She has an Emerald ECU installed and all working but one thing that doesn't work (I say one thing, one of a few) is the ABS - the warning light stays on. Can someone tell me if the ABS brain under the dash requires a feed from the standard ECU, could this be why mine doesn't work? Many thanks Andy |

I believe there is a connection between the ABS brain and the DME ECU. ISTR that it' just the road speed sensor feed. The most likely cause of your ABS light coming on is a dead wheel sensor. Unplug each one and check the resistance with a multimeter, if one's a lot different from the rest, that'll be the reason... The ABS sensors are not too pricey but can be a bit of a pig to remove from the wheel hubs (especially at the rear...) |

Thanks for that - I will have a look at the sensors and see if I can work out exactly which one has failed. In terms of the feed from the DME, is there any known reason for it? Do I need to replicate it? |

Hi ![]() No..dont bother with the wheel sensors... its not those.. ABS faults are in two types.... 1, Electronic faults where the abs light is on ALL the time... 2, Wheel sensor or sensor cable faults ...where the light comes on ONLY after MOVING a few yards (10 to 50 yards) So from your description , yours is number 1.... it may be your abs ecu or relays or your aftermarket ecu.... All the best Brett ![]() |

Just fixed mine. The ABS light, and therefore the red warning light, has been on for two years. Nothing at start up, indicating that the self test system says that all is well, but as soon as I set off the light came on. I have had a spare used ABS rear wheel sensor in the garage for a few weeks now, and just popped out and changed it. Thirty minute job, and only a couple of pounds for the sensor, and everything is fine. It's so strange driving the car without the warning light on.... I'm going to go out in the dark tonight just for the experience! Edited to point out it's actually three years not two.... even worse then. |
