As the title suggests - I am in the middle of replacing my oil cooler housing seals on a S2. I have stripped off everything apart from the 4 bolts that hold the housing to the side of the engine, the oil pressure sender and the oil pressure release valve. I am taking my time with this job and through doing a bit of research ahead of doing each step I have so far had all of the necessary tools and equipment as I have came to need them. Now as I am on the verge of removing the oil cooler housing and oil pressure release valve I want to be certain that i can successfully refit the housing an realign these parts once ne seals are fitted. What are your experiences of doing this job? Is a special tool really required? Also is it okay to remove the housing with the pressure sender in situ? |

If you have a new type pressure relief valve it's not that important. You should have the new type. The valve is in a sleeve & can't be nipped. You can use the valve itself to center if all up. The early valves are a nightmare! Thats why Porsche redesigned them. ![]() |

You can remove it with the pressure valve fitted. As the S2 has the later style valve you can remove it without any problems anyway, when refitting there is a tool for aligning the housing but you can refit the valve before fully tightening which will align it. The later valves are not as prone to sticking in the housing anyway. Its worth changing the sealing washer on the switch while you are in there. |

Cheers guys, I've got the housing off now, and in answer to my other question - yes it looks like the oil pressure sender must be removed first. There isn't enough space to wriggle it out with the sender sticking off the bottom so I've left the housing attached loosely while I get a 24mm open ended spanner. I have the later style pressure relief valve. http://944foot2thefloor.blogspot.com/2010/07/how-to-remove-and-replace-oprv-oil.html If you look at this link the page author goes through the different types of valves and explains how to identify them. |
