Windscreen Washers packed up on my 1991 944 S2. Normally my husband would fix these things but unfortunately he is ill at the moment and unable to work on it.

Local garage confirmed pump needs replacing, however they think they may need to remove front bumper to access it and husband hit the roof! Don't want the car dismantled meanwhile I guess we could probably just switch pipe from Headlight washers to get through MoT!

Can anyone tell me please - What is the best/easiest way to access the pump to replace it?

Thanks in anticipation

This might get a better response in the 944 section, however, I have an early lux and my 19 year old son changed the washer pump in 2 minutes without removing anything? Except the old pump of course. I would talk to another garage, where are you? As someone might know a better garage in your area.

99% sure you dont have to remove the front bumper.

Does it have washers for the headlights as well? If so it will have 2 pumps and cant remember if its the top or bottom. Top can be accessed by lifting headlights the bottom by removing the undertray. If it only has one not sure if its accessible from the top or bottom but will accessible.

The above is from memory from a couple of years ago, someone may correct me but I think its right.

Find another garage & never go near that one again. Rip off merchants. Washer bottle is a bit tricky to take out but the bumper does not have to come out. You don't need to take it out to replace the pump. Bet you can get another on ebay. The pump for the washers is the top one. The bottem one is for the headlight washers. Top one is very easy to replace. You should replace the piping at the same time as it's usually perished. Easy job takes half an hour to do the lot. £30 labour +£20 parts. MAX

Apologies I thought I had posted it in the 944 Section.

Anyway problem solved Thanks to a skinny handed mechanic without removing the bumper etc! All completed in 1/2 hour and all working now! Even sailed thru her MoT afterwards! :D

Yes she has Headlight washers too so there are 2 pumps with the Windscreen pump being the lower one of the 2.

Thank you all for your help
Regards

Great to hear you're sorted, but taking the front bumper off? what a bunch of cowboys, that wouldn't access at all!!

whole thing can be unbolted and dropped out in 10 mins, and as its been said washer pump is a doddle to replace, glad you've got it all sorted though.
