Just getting my 944 turbo (220) on the road. Im new to the Porsche scene so been reading up lots on the 944.
When it warms up theres a bearing noise that I first thought was the waterpump. But after looking at it yesterday, when I put a screwdriver behind the upper balanceshaft sprocket it sounds like its coming from there......?
My question, is the top sprocket a roller bearing which could be causing this noise?

NOpe sprocket is just a pulley on a shaft. I suspect one of the idlers or tensioners is starting to go. Needs belts whipped off & a check, although you can check some by slackening & moving away from the belt. When did it last have a water pump?

It been off the road since 08 because it was a written off. Not sure with the waterpump, will look through the service history. can believe how much they are!!!

Have to agree with Jim. The balance shaft rides on bearinf shell also. Very rarely do they go bad but if it has been sitting up for a while it is possible.
