Hi, Just looking for a bit of advice about my brakes. Over the last couple of years these have been the weak spot in the car & last year Unit 11 in Warrington (John) advised that the front calipers were badly corroded & may need replacing in 12-18 months. He also suggested it may be worthwhile looking around some websites (poss USA) for reconditioned units. As it's getting near MoT time again I've a few questions going around my head. 1 Is it worthwhile trying to recondition the steel plates (911&PW article Dec 2010)? 2 Should I get them reconditioned - eg Porscheshop? 3 Should I buy online - eg USA? Thanks in advance Tony |

Hi Tony R. I'd suggest you send a note to SULZERUK on this forum - he looks after a few 944s in central Scotland. I suspect he has several sets in his garage and he wouldn't sell anything not up to stratch so is worth dropping him a note in the first instance. ps - I have no financial connection to him beyond the fact that he helps out with my car! |

You could try Classicar Automotive. I think that they charge about £150 to fully recondition an S2/968 caliper, including new seals, pistons bleed nipples, crossover pipe and powder coating the housing. A few guys on the 968 Forum have used them and have been pleased with the results. |

Thanks for all your help - in particular for the offer of some calipers. Luckily, my brakes aren't as bad as I expected - so I'll have to spend some money elsewhere! |

Depends how corroded. The bits are cheap, getting the old bolts out a PITA. I think someone was saying BigRedd were offering recons at decent money. If they are left too long then the body corrodes so badly they cannot be refurbed. |
