Well its taken a few months (mostly car away in garage) but of late a few trips around the local area have started the bonding process for sure.

performance is nice, foot pressed hard is better than quite hard for sure. but overall really starting to enjoy the planted rear end and the cornering. Off road of course, explored fast sweepers tonight well over 120mph, before rejoining public roads for some legal spirited speeds.

The engine is very nice indeed, revs to 6500rpm and pulls well to there with 3rd and 4th gear pulls being lovely, 5th is good to a point but more power is needed for sure.

The roads back around Glamis were lovely and confidence / understanding are growing in its abilities. Also not bad against some hot hatches and it totally blew them away on cornering if not so convincingly on the straights but its 22yrs old. It has the 17" wheels with Porsche spacers on 255 rears that are really very nice indeed. A LSD would help i think but not totally necessary at this power (Jim i'll PM later)

The overall experience was very enjoyable, and my toeing and heeling is getting better in the car, issue is braking effort, you actually have to be breaking quite hard before your toes touch the throttle, so you can only practice when driving hard (not the case in saabs), brakes are damned good thanks to upgrades by previous owner. One thing that really irritates me is the rev needle bouncing around, can this be sorted?. Also the speedo is way out (probably tyres etc) but 30mph actual says 38mph on speedo, 70mph actual is 80mph on the speedo so safe and typical for cars of the time but can new gears or something be found. Also does this mean the car has actually done fewer miles than the speedo suggests.

So from always loving the look and shape I am starting to rather like the actual car. A few niggles here and there but overall I am starting to feel I got a real bargain when I found her on fleebay.

Met potential new TIPEC member by chance on way home, in 2.7 944, saw him going around a roundabout near home, he stopped soon after, and so did I, another enthusiast with a S2 red cabrio to boot. So Jim G join up soon. pics and dynolicious run to follow.

I found the speedo on my S2 was out by a similar amount and it was a sorted and standard example. Oddly, my new square dash speedo is pretty much bang on! Hardly any error at all

Mine is also pretty much right. I would check your tries size, ( over all diameter ) is the correct fittment, other wise there be some change.

The early cars had 'square dash' (like old VW Gold ones), the later ones had 'oval dash' - look at some pictures and you'll see the difference. As for the speedo, my S2 is almost the same. I run a Talex GPS camera detector thing by the dash and can see the difference. It doesn't bother me because I know that if I forget the camera detector all I have to do is drive at an indicated 'whatever the speed limit is' and I'll be fine.

Here's a photo of my S2 'Oval Dash' which will be the same as yours'
Image
...and this is my early 'square dash' model

The dash changed along with other changes during 1985, you'll see people refer sometimes to a 1985.5 model, which will be the first of the oval dashes

Hope that all helps :D

Can't answer that as didn't buy them!

The S2 came with them and I loved them. I then sold the S2, went to pick up the square dash and oddly about a week before I got it, the previous owner bought some new red mats for her. I was planning to buy some so no need! :D

You could try http://www.justmatz.co.uk/

Email them and ask for Jeremy. Tell him Hairyarse (Andy) put you in touch, he should do you a deal ;)

He's mostly in to the MK1 Golf thing which is how I know him but he should be able to do tailored mats for the 944

I can vouch for the red anyway, really sets the interior off a treat 8)

Cheers
Andy

But why S2. You could say exactly the same for my lux. The '44 is a great car full stop. Now if you change swap the diff for a lux one it will go like it should. otherwise the lux will match it very close! My speedo is spot on at 30 but 4mph over reading at 70. At 140 it's 10mph out!
