Post subject:  Removing under bonnet sound foam

Working from home this week and have some time between meetings.

I want to remove the foam that is disintegrating under the bonnet. Is there an easy way to do this?
I heard that the glue is quite serious and hard to remove.

Any tips as this is falling all over the engine and its a matter of time before the car goes up in flames.

I would put a sheet over the car with the bonnet up and use a scraper, brick trowel. do u intend on replacing? If so u won't need 2 clean it up.

I wasn't going to replace it and wanted it to be as clean as possible underneath......

What was the point of this stuff anyway? Sound proofing?

I removed the foam from mine a couple of years ago.
Think it was supposed to be sound-proofing. Only removed a small patch of the sticky stuff using sticky stuff remover and have still got most to get rid of. Takes a while :?

I have a set of aftermarket foam soundproofing that will not disintegrate cut and pre shaped, saves trying to get it spotless=hassle, get the bulk off and then stick this on £55 posted

Seen some with the logo painted on, looks quite cool. Could do something similar your self.

Frenchy - Im interested, you got any pictures?

i was toying with the idea of just getting rid of it all together using chemicals and elbow grease. After all all turbos after 1987 came without the sound proofing.

But your idea might save me some very hard graft whilst keeping the car original.

I too have seen the cars witht the logo on the underside of the bonnet, im not keen myself, but each to their own.

I used tar and glue remover followed by polish and wax.
It looks much better polished up...hard work but worth it
