I get the impression most S2 or 944s in general are slow to crank. Mine has a brand new Unipart battery the last owner put in. Is 64 a/hrs enough, or is this likely to not be enough when the weather gets cold or the car is left for a few days?

Thanks guys

The Manual for an S2/Turbo states 63 AH but doesn't quote the cranking amps.
The Battery on my 944Turbo is a GM64-C7 12V 64AH 360CCA 100MINRC.
The 2.7 and Turbo are much easier to crank than the S2's which I sometimes used to wonder if it was going to kick into life.
I purchased a "Carcoon" battery conditioner/maintainer in 2005 and have used it on the 3 944's I have owned with no battery problems at all, although the cars have been garaged and kept above 5deg so have not been out in the freezing conditions.
Also the type of alarm system you have will make a difference to the length of time you can leave it before you get a starting problem! - If you have it garaged I would certainly recommend getting a battery conditioner.
There is another optional piece of kit worth looking at called a Dis-Car-Nect - basically a Battery isolator.

We recommend 72ah on 944's.

There are also 2 starter motor options, from memory a 1.2kw and a 1.4kw.. obviously we recommend the 1.4kw, very little in the price but the cranking difference is very noticable.

Another good point is to make sure you have good earth leads (engine to chassis, and battery to chassis)... even if they look fine, its worth testing them for voltage drop along their length.. a good looking strap can drop 2 volts which can cause all kinds of problems.
