Trying to get the car back on the road after a period of in-activity. Needed to sort a couple of problems for the MOT and started yesterday morning before work. While attempting to change the speed reference sensors, I managed to drop the nut back into the sensor hole. Looks to be a bastard to get out but the housing might be easier to remove. Anyone got any experience of getting the housing off? Secondly, I need to change the temperature sensor at the front of the engine block. Anyone know a simple route into get the part changed? I did manage to change battery ![]() If I can get it sorted and no new issues, MOT is next weekend |

Good idea. Of course I've never done anything like that before (liar), which is why I had a magnet in a piece of string. I then invested in a small one on a goose neck. I think I got it out of Screwfix or somewhere? |

Pickup up a telescopic pen size (when not extended) magnet from Halfrauds or similar and it's the best purchase I ever made! |

Unfortunately the bolt is lost out of site. Tried a magnet retreiver but no success. Spoke to Jon Mitchell who say to remove the starter motor and turn the egine to encourage the bolt down to the bottom of the overall housing. Must admit, I'm losing patience with the car ![]() Maybe a days rest will encourage me to try the advice |

Yup starter off would be my thought as well. The sender housings break so be careful as they are massively expensive. |

Thanks to help from a local TIPEC member, we found the bolt when we took the starter motor off. Safely changed the speed sensors and all running sweet. booked for MOT next weekend. Time to wash it and start using it to keep everything in better condition. Thanks for the help. |

richard - I'm just wondering what were the symptoms that made you decide to change the speed sensors on the engine? Steve |

First time it happened, the AA man (a very nice man ![]() Whenever i've had the same starting problem since, it has jus been a case of removing a sensor, quick clean and bolt back in place. I have been meaning to change them for a while and this seems to have cured the problem. Fingers crossed. I't's a topic that has come up regularly on the forum. Type in speed sensors as a search |
