anyone running springs at the rear of a 924 or 944 instead or torsion bars ? i have read quite a bit about doing away with the torsion bars and running suitable rated springs instead, it seems to be popular in the states. any advice ? |

Good question as I'm also interested in this as I've just bought a coil over kit for my 968... |

it seems that if running without rear torsion bars , the the rear coilover springs should be around 700 lbs |

I have coil overs on mine. It would be handy to save me messing about with the bar but I'm not sure if the bracket at the top and the one sideways bolt at the bottom would be strong enough to take the whole weight? I could be wrong. There must be something else that is used for the conversion. Rich. |

Roy924gt - you mention our friends in the States having coil overs at the rear... do you have any specific posts to mind? I'd really like to see any info you have relating. Richclarke2 - I see what you mean ie. stressing... as it is just a simple bolt sandwiched with rubber top and bottom on the rear shocks. I have the latest Spax kit RSX118 that has the rear coil springs included and it is an option on the fitting instructions to remove the torsion beams I believe. I'm awaiting clarification on this from Spax, Bicester, Oxon. |

Spax kit has 150-170lb rear springs so you wont be deleting the torsion bars with them. Rich |

Dont you leave the torsion tube in so you can use the mounting points and just remove the torsion bars or is that not what you are meaning? Rich |

check out rennlist for threads on the rear suspension, also paragon-products actually state on there website about removing torsion bars in respect to fitting coilovers, "You can add the Koni Cup Kit to your existing torsion bars or if you want to remove torsion bars you can rest easy there will be no rubber bushings to fail" "Note 1 Coil-Over Kit - Bilstein Escort Cup : It is impossible for us to come up with a spring choice that will fit every racer's needs appropriately. If removing torsion bars, we can very generally recommend a front spring rate of 600 lbs/in matched with a rear spring rate of 700 lbs/in." yes i can see the point in beefing up the mounting bolts for the dampers and the swing arm mount. anyone else got usefull info on this, someone racing or tracking their car must have done this. |

I race a 924 turbo in the NSSCC I run Gaz shocks with the torsion bars removed The car handles fantastically although I am running a standard normally aspirated 2000cc The turbo engine never made it to the track. The cars racing on the 24th and 25th at Croft with a lot of work been done in the off season on the engine. The biggest improvements to handling apart from the Gaz coil over kit has been the addition of adjustable strut tops to dial in more castor to match the neg camber on the front this adjustment alone gave a 3 second a lap gain. It gives you a lot more feel to the turn in Gaz supplied the kit I have no idea what the spring rates are but they are very helpful if you ring them |
