Why didnt you take it back to the people who did the job for you last month?

Hi All I had some paintwork done on my car last month I am not happy with it so I went to a "better Quality" out fit today, I asked them to repaint part of the work done before and to touch up the stone chip paint and re-paint the sills. The owner seems very knowledgeable and quality looks good......HOWEVER he says the stone chip paint should be hard, he says it never goes off completely but mine seems to not have enough hardener, you can easly push you finger nail through the paint! is this normal? He wants to completly remove the stone chip as a few very small rust stains are showing through! is there a prefered way of removing this? anyone had this done?, he has quoted £600 to remove and re-paint including front and rear wings both sides (ps is there a spell check on here my spelllings crap) Ken |

The original stonechip material is made by Wurth and still available, not sure of the code for it ? |

Good question! the first outfit did a good job painting the rear spoiler and doors....but they messed up the wing's by painting around the stone chip decals its looks OK but it is bugging the hell out of me because it is not right...... Since having the work done I have noticed a small amount of rust bleed and marks in the stone chip paint so I intend to get this sorted I should have done this before, I do not trust the other guys, and to do the stone chip properly they need to paint the wing's again anyway so I'm going else where. should the stone chip be hard ? |

But your post of Feb 26th stated that the work came with a 3 year guarantee!  If you are dissatisfied you should first give them the opportunity to rectify any mistakes/poor work on their part and if that doesnt give you what you want then you can take it further ie Trading Standards etc.  Going to another company is really only going to cost you more in the long run.

The rust bleed to the sills is very minor and is only surface I,m more concerned with the marks in the stone chip... If I get the other company to correct the work, then I either get them to do the sills as an extra or they do work that the sill guy will do again anyway.....with hinesight should have done the sills first......  I brought this car a a cheap supercar...but I've spent more in the last 3 months than the car cost me it's become a bit of an obsession |

Hmmm,bodywork can be hellish expensive.  I ve been lucky with mine so far but inevitably will need some done in the not too distant future which is why I was interested to hear about this firm as they are about three miles from here!As far as I know the stonechip paint on my sills is original and as hard as nails.I must get some camera pics of the insides soon then I will have an idea of what to expect  .Keep us posted!

I would take 944 Blokes advice and return the car to the bodyshop who did the work. Politely but firmly explain what the problem is and what you would like to happen. Going somewhere else seems a complete waste of money to me, espically in this economic climate. Unless you've got money to burn of course. I'm sure the bodyshop will want to keep your custom. As for the sills, are they sound? They do have a tendancy to rot from the inside out. (See previous posts on removing B pillar vent to check this). It might just be a case of it is exterior rust. The stone chip should be hard on the sills. Good luck. Don't get to obssesed with having a perfect 944. By and large, the amount you spend on the car won't make much difference to it's value. Ben

Cheaper to buy the best you can find than a cheap one & then spend a fortune on it! But nobody ever gets this. Everyone want a bargain but really theres no such thing. Buying these cars right is everything. And the model doesn't matter. Only condition! |

I just want it done right,
