Recently after leaving the side lights 'on', and coming back to a car with a flat battery, I had a look around the web for a solution....
It was a quick 'painless' little job actually. I bought a 'lights reminder' buzzer from a car accessories place, for a few pounds, and then after looking at what arrived, thought it couldn't be that difficult?? I looked at the wiring diagram on the 968 workshop manual that I have on CD, Identified the sidelights cables that connect to the light switch on the dashboard (its grey/red offside, and grey/black nearside) and the earth link (black/yellow)
The easiest thing is to drop the rotary light switch from the dash, just gently pull the top cap from the switch, and then with a 24mm socket remove the nut holding the switch to the dash. This gives easier access to the switch and its wiring connector which (should) as on my car drop from behind the dash.
I spliced into the grey/red cable with the buzzers positive, and the same with black/yellow. from the buzzers earth. Now when the side lights are put on, I have a gentle, but persistent BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ, until the keys are inserted into the ignition switch, and turned into position I or II (ignition on)
All that remained was to tie back the spare buzzer cable, and with double sided tape attach the buzzer module to a convenient spot underneath the dash, job done!.
You could of course, attach the earth strap from the buzzer unit to the interior light door switch.... so the alarm would sound as you opened the door, after removing the keys from the ignition switch if you had left sidelights on.....
I may add that option. Only downside I have discovered from this, is that should you use the offside parking lights faculty that our cars have via the indicator stalk, the buzzer will sound... no big deal for me, as I never leave the car vulnerable on a roadside. But should this be important to you, then I would suggest the interior light door switch option for the earth connection.
