Some advice please - where's the best place to buy wheel bearings. Mine are starting to drone a bit.

I'm not sure if you're buying over the phone or internet, but if you collect, yes you do have to show them your membership card.

I'm sure someone else will be along soon, who will know. :wink:

Penny, do you intend changing these yourself, they're not the easiest to change & I'd certainly farm it out.
I've used Berlyn in the past, Bert is good for commodity items like this.

Ho HO, you knew what I meant (mind you you'll fit in well here :lol: ), not sure on your hubbies skills (at changing wheel bearings! :mrgreen: ) but they ain't the easiest to do without a big press & lots of heat. If you give it to the garage they may want to source the bearing themselves!

Andy's pretty handy when it comes to mechanical stuff but if it's going to be that much of a pain in the butt he'll probably let the garage deal with it. We know the owner reasonably well and he's quite happy for us to supply our own parts. :thumbup:

Hi,

If you use Porscheshop, phone them, as when I bought from them over the internet they didn't deduct the 10% and wouldn't refund it when when I phoned them. After alot of hassle they agreed to take the money off my next order.

Also, I changed a rear wheel bearing last year. You will definately need a decent slide hammer to first get the hub out of the bearing and then to get the bearing out of the arm. To put the new bearing in, first leave it in the freezer overnight then heat the arm up (I used an electric paint stripping gun), then use the old bearing to bash the new one in place. Not the easiest of things to do but it should save you around £100 :D

Thanks for the useful advice. I will pass this on to my Andy! I'm all for saving £100 or so - the car's in being repaired at the moment. Had a call to pick her up, paid the £220 bill (needed a new fuel pump), got into her to start her up and she fired up and then died - this was the exact problem I had booked her in with! As you can imagine, I'm well p****ed off. :angryfire: :cussing:

I'm just starting to find that one out! We spoke to the garage this morning and they're still trying to find out what the problem is - apparently the new fuel pump has packed up as well - OMG!!!! :roll:

Fuel pump relay?? On 944s they are notorious for letting you down and general advice is to keep a spare in the glove box!

Hi Adam

Hiya

If the relay has failed open then you won't get any joy from the fuel pump so it could well be that. Simple check of the relay by the garage should eliminate it from your enquiries :idea:

Hope it doesn't work out too expensive for ya.
