Bluetak is the same as the stuff you get on ebay for silly money & it works just as well. Just roll it into a sausage & feed it around the light. You can use silicon but it's not so easy to get the lights out again when you need!

clean the old sealant off the body and the light and reseal with 'tiger seal' it's a great product and i sealed my lights with it many years ago and have not had to touch them since ... hope this helps |

This or there's some stuff on eBay like a rubber putty which is oem stuff. I would stay away from bathroom sealant or anything that takes 24 hours 2 cure unless u can keep the car covered, from rain |

I've just cleaned my lights up ready to refit after a full body respray. I've ordered some neoprene rubber closed cell self adhesive strip to try to use. I want watertight but I don't want permanent sealant as used by a previous owner which was a pig to remove lights and clean up. I wouldn't use tiger seal as it will bond the lights in making them almost impossible to remove, its strong stuff, often used for bonding body kits to panels. You could try Dum Dum which is an old style mastic sealer which never sets (a bit like black Blu Tak). |

Tiger seal and Dum Dum will still make a mess of everything it sticks to. All the crud and crap from a few years driving and washing will also stick to it in the crevasses. Back to square one when you need to remove and clean up all the mess again. Blue tack will crush and not expand, potentially leaving gaps and water ingress. Most modern auto fitments come with closed cell neoprene gaskets these days. Seals well and can still be removed and refitted without fuss and no mess. |

The advantage of Dum Dum is that it never sets and so can easily be removed if you need to and any remnants can be removed with white spirit or similar. What were the lamps sealed in with originally? If they didn't use closed cell foam at the factory, there may not be space to fit it in. It usually requires two flat surfaces to seal. |

Thanks for all the replies. It was, I think, the factory foam on the car but this was all stripped out for a recent re-paint. I've decided to give the neoprene rubber closed cell self adhesive strip a try and will see how this goes in the first instance. Cheers everyone. |

Make sure that you put the join in the foam at the bottom of the light, otherwise the water will find the gap and get in. Just a thought, but are the gaskets still available from the dealers? |
