| Post subject: | Rear hatch pins |
One side of my rear hatch will not shut and remain shut. A sharp tug can open one side. I have tried cleaning up the mechanism that clamps onto the hatch pin and that hasnt worked. Then i noticed that this sides hatch pin is significantly shorter than the side that operates correctly. Any ideas how to adjust the length on these pins? Do i need to open the tamperproof screws either side of the hatch pin? |

Undo the bolt then turn the pin. Once you have the pin the right length redo the bolt. You may be able to do it with your fingers but may need pliers if the pin is seized. Put a rag between the pin and the pliers if you don't want to mark the pin. Thanks Mike. I will give it a try. [Sarcastic]Its nice of Porsche to leave a flat surface on this pin to be able to get a spanner onto it.[/Sarcastic] It looks seized into place, but i will try. |

If there was a flat bit each side the pin probley wouldnt grip in place as well, u could always file or grind a flat side above the head on the treads. This wouldnt affect the function off the pin getting clamped/locked by the plastic/nilon clamp. U may need 2 shorten or raise the other side, 2 long will lock but won't close tight on the hatch seal. 2 short won't lock. |

Hi, 1st thing I did when I got my 944 was replace the pins but I found the mechanisms to be worn too. The levers in the mechanism that splays apart get an angled surface on the uderside of them which then enables the boot just to be pulled open. I got all my pins, mechanisms etc. from my Porsche Dealer, reasonable too, mechanisms were £20 odd quid each plus the dreaded VAT, pins and rubber blocks cheap too. Took a little bit of trial and error to get the length right, I couldnt turn the originals, they were seized completely and had rash on them from when other people had tried. Si |

Rav, In theory it is easy. Loosen the locking nut and turn the pin itself to the desired length and then retighten. In practice you often have to take a pair of grips to the pin to get it to turn which tends to mess the bulb end up a bit. You can also withdraw the whole pin and nut combination by removing the 2 spline nuts and taking it out. I have the right tool if you need it. I replaced my pins a year or so ago and I had to cut one of the pins in half to get it out! |

If grinding 2 sides flat on the treads above the pin head don't work, u could grind though the nut, this should free the pin, there for only needing 2 replace the nut rather then both. |

Thanks for the advice all. I have sorted the issue now. I used some molgrips and a rag. But i had to use a lot of force. Now onto repacing the brakes and then sorting the sunroof leak. I feel like im painting the fourth bridge and have really lost my mojo with this car...... |
