I am taking the 924 in for it's MOT at the end of this week. It flew though the last 2, not so sure of it this year. If I have a failure this time round, I suspect that it will be the steering rack. When I first got it, I had to swap out the rack for the one in my old (now spares) car, and I think that it is getting to the end of it's natural life. I don't know how easy it's going the be to get a new rack if one is needed.

Wish me luck guys. :)

Good luck, anything that can be done to keep a 924 on the road should be tried. I loved my first ever Porsche, a 924 and sometimes wonder why I sold it.

Steering racks can be reconditioned. If yours needs it just ask your garage and there will be someone local Im sure. :) 5 or 6 years ago I was quoted £90 for my manual 944 rack but I bought a second hand one cheaply and the garage made a good one out of the two of them! :D

Good luck with the MOT. Mine is due before the end of the month but I haven't used the car because of a bad back. Hopefully be able to report some good news on both front and get the car in motion soon.

Good luck with the mot. If you need a steering rack, i think gsf car parts or euro car parts do new or recon ones. If not i think mk1 golf rack should fit.

WHOOHOO. It's a pass with no advisories!!

3rd year running, but only did 4K miles this year. Only thing I've done in last 12 months though is change the oil. Not bad for a 30 year old motor. :D

Has to be a lot of play in the steering before its a fail. If it's getting a bit vague & the play is in the rack it's not big money to have it rebuilt. Worth it if you like nice precise steering! Well done on the MOT. :)

I've actually got 13 months MOT on it. The expiry date is 17th March 2012. I always book it in early so that I don't run out of ticket if it needs anything.

I was a bit cross with the garage actually. I dropped it of and went down the town for an hour. When I got back to the garage, they told me that it had overheated and it had blown a load of water out. The radiator switch had failed and the fan had not come on. Why oh why didn't they spot the temperature creeping up and switch it off early.
Doesn't seem to be any damage, but I will watch it over the next few days.

I got a new switch at the local motor factors, 10 minutes to change it and and top the coolant back up. Couldn't source a Porsche one, but the shop went through their stock and came up with an identical switch from a Vauxhall (at Vauxhall prices!) 8)
