I need to fine a place to service my 944 and I live in Harrow.

Last year I serviced it at a place called Ruche. I don't want to go back there as although he seemed like a nice guy and did exactly what I asked, he didn't even know where the air filter was. Something that you would assume should be changed or checked during a service.

So I'm looking for a good garage and JZM Machtech seem to be reasonably close to where I live and their web site looks pretty impressive.

I just need a regular service, gearbox oil change and I want the alignment checked and steering wheel centered.

Or if you know of any other garage that are commutable from Harrow then do let me know.

Thanks everyone and be cool.

Never heard 'owt bad about JZM but I ather they aren't the cheap end of the indy market for service & they are generally associated with later Porsches. RPM aren't far from you in Beds so that would be a possibility.

Thanks I will check them out now.

How about Charles Ivey in Fulham.

Any one know them and if they have a good or bad rep?

(Just checked out RPM and they look OK and in a good location too). Thanks for the tip off.

Hi

Whilst you're at it, try Chris Turner.

http://www.christurner.com/

I used to live in Harrow (in fact my 951 is still in winter storage there - booo! ). Chris is not far from you located next to Dollis Hill tube, Neasden.

Good luck, let me know how you get on.

My car has an extensive history with JZM with the previous owner. Looks like they looked after it for about 5 years. From reading Porsche mags etc they do seem to have a very good reputation. Some of the bills on file are eye watering but they were doing quite a bit of work.

My 911 has been serviced by JZM in the past, they seem (by the receipts) very thorough, and Porsche mags don't seem to have a bad word to say about them

What about JAZ in wembley. Been around for years, and just round the corner. Was thinking of using them when my car next needs a service.

Hi,

JZM are very highly rated in the Porsche mags - as previously mentioned.

Charles Ivey sells some cracking Porsches at reasonable prices - they never hang about long.

Never used either of them as I'm up Nord.

Thanks for getting back to me everyone, I really appreciate it as it is a nervous thing to have to do to leave your baby in the hands of a stranger.

Although it is a few miles from Harrow, I have settled for RPM as they were very keen and seemed quite reasonable when I spoke to them.
My parents live out that way too so I can kill two birds with one stone and have them pick me up when I drop my car off.

I also got a quote from Charles Ivey but it almost made me faint. £400 for the regular 6K mile service plus all the other bits came to £1000 plus VAT. Ouch.
I'd rather have a nice drive into the country and spend the extra on petrol.

I will check out the other garages mentioned though as they are local so I will see what they have to say for themselves.

Thanks all.

On their website, JZM don't even have the 944 as an option on their service menu pricing, so that should tell you something, plus their service rate is £69/hour + VAT

I've used RPM for nearly 5 years for all work on my S.2 and would highly recommend them. They've just done my engine mounts and it's going in next week for refurbed torque tube and clutch. Take a look at their 968 engined 944 track/road car while your there.

Hi,

I had an S2 previously and just bought a 944t earlier this month. I also live in Harrow.

I've used JZM previously on the S2 and cannot fault the company or their work. Although, when I bought my 944t I called them so I could book the car in for some work and they advised they no longer service for 944's as parts are hard to source!

Although when I emailed them with a query re pricing for servicing a 944, I was sent the information without any side note to advise about the difficulty of sourcing parts.

I've also used Jaz in Wembley previously. Again, superb operation and the team there really know there stuff. (Speak with Steve if you ever call them. He owns the garage and also lives in the neighbourhood I think) So I booked the car with them. When I asked for a worst case quote for the work I wanted doing, I was quoted £700 all in. In the end, they managed to do everything for £230!

Will be going back to them every time.

Good to have an enthusiast in the area!

jabriel, good to hear that some one else where I live is a proper enthusiast.
There are loads of 944's in Harrow and all of them look neglected to a certain degree.
However I keep seeing a couple of nice ones around and they stand out like a sore thumb by comparison.

You in the Thames Valley club region and meeting at the Novelo near Maidenhead?

I'm not too into spod tech talk but we could share the drive sometimes if you liked?

Have sent you a PM so this thread doesn't get off topic.

Let us know how you get on when the car returns...
