Which cars came with manual winders and are they interchangeable between models?

I think it was only some of the 968 Clubsports, I believe they can be fitted to any oval dash model 944 and 968 but are a bit like hens teeth to find.

I thought some 924s had manual windows?

Now you mention it I remeber a topic a couple of years ago about this. I think very early 924's had manual windows but can't remember if they fit later cars.

Theyre all similar. Base model 924s all had manually wound windows, as did base model 944s, although they werent sold in this country. Fidning the winders isnt nearly as difficult as finding the door cars to match them.

People commonly want to fit them to save weight, but when you weigh both together youll see that theres virtually nothing in it...

Loads on ebay.de but early 924/944 stuff commands strong money v's the UK. Most of the UK cars were lux models from the outset with power windows as standard ad hence hard to find here. Euro cars were often spec'ed with less options.

PS your German will need to be good to search for specific items

Weight saving on manual versus power windows and mirrors is massive!!

are manual mirrors plastic? the motors weigh next to nothing.

I just fitted both 924 manual winders and mirrors to my '86 944 . They bolt right in ,there's virtualy no difference that i can see betwen the early and late winders and yes the mirrors are plastic housing with metal base.
The winders are a total of 2kg lighter than ellectric and the mirrors 1kg .It's very little and for any normal car not worth it .I'm building a club sport replica and i'm looking for both light weight and factory looks so this works for me.

The above post mirrors my experience with regards to weight. I deleted the winders altogether and added vents in the rear (polycarbonate) quarters for ventilation.
