Was looking at a golf today and noticed the head light glass looks identical. And iv noticed that there seems 2 be a difference between earlier 85.5 and later head lights? Which is what?

Well they used Golf rear lights so maybe they used the front ones too. I know the side repeaters on the S2 are also from the Golf.

The Headlamps on a mk 1 golf are the exact same as the 944/924 ... as for the rear lights ... i think not the porsche lights have a curve on the rear 1/4 panel where as the golf lights are straight !

Yeah, I didn't think the rear were the same, so what's the difference between the earlier and late head lights? Then. I'm just asking about the glass lenses

I didn't think there was any difference in the lens but I'm not so sure about the frame.

I did think about fitting something like this awhile ago but never go around to it.

There cheap, main concern, is paying more 4 what car they go on rather the quality.
VW part number 114941753H. On eBay it's possible 2 get 2 new lense and bulbs 4 £ 50

Golf lamps are similar to 924 and series 1 944 & early series 2 944 lamps. 1988 model year onwards cars have level adjusters and these lamps arent interchangeable.

Was the poster who said that 'they used Golf rear lights' joking?

No I wasn't. It has always been my understanding that the 944 rear lights are from the Mk1 Golf - although there never actually is a Mk1 in anything is there. I think (but don't know) that there are two types of rear light clusters for Golf Mk1 - early and late. I understand that the late ones are the ones that fit the 944.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong..... but it's just one of those things that I have in my mind because I have read it somewhere in the past - and the older I get the more 'past' there is to remember

It's very unlikely that Porsche would want to fork out for lights on a relatively low production run. They would use as much as they could from the VW/Audi parts bin. We really should have a sticky on here for the parts that we know are from other models. There are loads of common parts & knowing where there from can save serious money. GSF make a living out of doing this!

Ok, so by level adjustment? Do u mean the the wheel like think that can rise the beam depending on how many people are in the rear seats? I'm mainly intersted in the glass lense not the housing.

I can confirm that they definitely arent.

The facelifted Mk.1 Golf rear lamps are larger and they looked sort-of similar to the 924s lamps, but they arent the same part (and the Porsche lamps preceded the VWs by 5+ years).
