Post subject: | Hello |
Hello All. Just thought I'd say Hi. About a month ago I bought a 944, an '82 X reg one. It was really cheap (£700), and to be honest I bought it just to see what one would be like and because classic insurance on it was so cheap. I've got a fair history of car ownership (I've had about 100 in total!), and fancied something different, which I have certainly got. I actually really like the car, although being a 28-year old car it has a few issues. To that end I also bought another one last week, an 86 which was an auto car which had been used for a transplant, so it is missing the gearbox, exhaust, torque tube, but was also pretty rusty underneath; it looks spot on from the top (it's white), however, and the interior (which on my car was demolished and filthy) is going to make its way across to the old car; well the seats and carpets are anyway, so all the other bits will be up for grabs soon enough (probably from this weekend), as it has quite a few nice bits on it. Anyway, hello all, hopefully I won't need too much help with the 944, although some of the things I've read on here mean maybe I will! Darren |

Hello. May be cheaper to scrap them both & start again given the parts prices but.................... Read the buyers guide. Hope you got lucky. ![]() |

Oh, I have a full one, I was just referring to general wear and tear (the original interior is horrible), and previous owner neglect in places (front brakes were knackered, now replaced and it was overdue a service). Drives nicely enough for a cheap car, goes well, and I actually like the poor old thing which is clearly a major plus point! The newer one looks a shame to break up given the apparent condition from above, but there you go... |

Well, here's a pic of the car proper: ![]() And here's the one I've bought for the interior: ![]() With the odd addition of S2 and turbo badges (it is neither), it's a lot rustier than the X reg one - looking at the sills on 'my' one they look OK in the vent at the rear of the doors, whereas the white one has clearly visible holes through which you can see daylight! It's had a fibreglass front bumper fitted (is this S2 style?) ![]() Alloys that I can't pin down in terms of origin: ![]() The dash and interior are in good condition (carpets and seats are going into my car, but obviously the dashboard isn't!) ![]() Engine was apparently fine, the gearbox and flexplate were used for a conversion of another car (this one was an auto). Problem is I can't run it up as I don't have a flywheel for the starter to drive. Or an exhaust (minor detail). ![]() I want to get it out of the way sooner rather than later, so I guess I need to assess what is worth taking off and get on with it! |

That is the turbo/s2 front bumper. Looks like a good fit 2 the wings as well which are different from the blue n/a. Iv seen 2 firbe glass front bumpers and both had the undertray modled in one with the bumper? Don't no if that will also help demeaning wether it oem or not. The wheels look 2 be cup wheels, should be 16/17 inch. If there Porsche the et will be embosed by the valve hole. The offsets are different from 1985.5 along with a few others parts. |

Don't think the wheels are genuine Porsche, there is a manufacturer mark at about 5 o'clock on the rim, maybe mille migia (or something like that), look like 16" cup replicas |

Post subject: | Re: Hello |
The wheels are italian copies (says made in italy on the back of one of the spokes), but they're still worth a few quid, right? They're 17 inch and have usable tyres on them (about 5-6mm of tread all round). Wasn't planning on fitting them to my car as I like the ones that are on it at the moment (although they are a bit scabby, but if you spend money on that and all the other things you've suddenly got a £5k car that's no more fun than it is right now), and I already have enough wheels here as I have about 20 for my rally car! Are the front wings different on the white car compared to the green one? I thought they were all the same until later on? I hope they are as the nearside wing on mine has a dent in it and has been painted by a four-year old with a hose and creosote by the looks of it. Looks like the bit under the rear bumper is also fibreglass as well from a quick examination. As for the colour, it's Lhasa Green, which was (I think) an option only on the 82 car? Either way, I like it! |

Don't know where you are based but I bet its nowhere near so i can scavenge parts of that white one ![]() When you say you bought it for the interior, are you aware that its a complete nightmare trying to put an oval dash in a square dash car? bulk head is different, very much like trying to but a square peg in a round hole... |

Post subject: | Re: Hello |
Yeah, I didn't make that clear, but it's seats and carpets only going across, I know they're totally different both physically and electrically. Can't say I'm that bothered about the oval dash really, it's a 1982 car so I was always expecting it to look a bit Mk1 Golf! I'm in Bournemouth.... what are you after? |
