Since I bought my new (old ;)) early dash 944 I've been spending my time, before it goes out on the road properly, rust proofing it for future use.

I bought a beautifully solid example in the first place so that of course helps but I've noticed so many people saying "hello my 944 is rusty" recently and wondered if what I do could help it not getting to this stage.

First of all I've stripped off any flakey underseal, check every part of the car and paint on the kurust. After this I re-underseal the car.

I keep a big tin of aerosol rust proofing wax in te garage & everytime I'm under the car working & if I see a bare area then it gets a squirt. I also have in the garage some of Bilt Hambers fine products which are meant to be in the sills & other cavities but I haven't got round to it yet!
When my sills were done they liberally coated the underside of the car with Schutz, which gets a moan & an advisory from the MOT tester every year but should keep the rot at bay.

A filthy job but spraying/painting with old engine oil helps, find the rustiest car in the scrapyard and check for oil underneath, i bet it won't be rusty in that location.
Bilthammer gets good appraisals, keep salt and mud washed off, fill the sills rear wheelwells with cavity wax.

One of the 60's minis I owned years ago had oil coating under the carpet and in the boot floor and not a spot of rust!

POR15 is highly regarded for the underside if applied in the right way, you'd still want to underseal or similar though for sound deadening I think

Saw you this morning heading down A38 towards Derby at about 9.40

:D

Didn't see any waves or flashing lights, nor did I notice another classic Porsche! What car were you in? :)

Volvo V50, I did wave as you passed but you looked like you were talking (handsfree) or singing to radio/music
