Post subject:  Hello & Rear seat deletion

Hello all,

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks as I'm a bit shy  , but thought I'd better introduce myself before I ask for a little guidance, I have run a '91 Turbo for the last 4ish years, and had (still have) a 944lux previously. The turbo is slightly modded, mainly in the suspension department, but a bit tired in the paint (porsche multi-pink) and is used as my main driver.

However, onto the guidance, I'm looking to remove/delete/extract the rear seats as in the nearly 9 years of owning 944's I think they've been used once for a half mile journey, and in the quest for better fuel efficiency 8) , I thought losing a bit of weight might help. Question is where to start locating the fixings, I'm not adverse to playing with spanners, but I don't want to start ripping out interior fittings willy-nilly (they never seem to go back properly).

thanks in advance for any help

Hi and welcome to the forum

IIRC to remove the backrest there are some screws in the bottom corners at each side and you need to pull back the 'carpet' on the rear of it away to find them
The rear seat base is glued in place. I think that you have to pull the rear carpet away to do this. for the back rest.

I am sure there will be someone else here who knows more about it

I'm going to do the same I think. I'd love to get my hands on the 968 cab gubbins that replace the rear seats with two lockable cubby holes.

I hadn't thought about that  , I'll have to see what the available space is once they are out, as we don't have sprogs they are pretty useless & just seem to accumulate the assorted crud that back seats attract (and something less to clean  )

thanks for the welcome too :D

Hi,

Got mine stripped out, here are some pic's that might be usefull, the weight of the fold down rear seat back is 5kg on its own !!!!!so i can see your point on deleting seats, i've been taking seat/general trim out off on since i've bought the car, its quality german products with the inherent weight penalty  i've never seen the stowage bins any one got any pic links ?

The other option to the cubby boxes is the 968 Club Sport rear seat delete kit. I'm not sure exactly what this would comprise and the carpet would only be in black as this was the only interior colour in the CS.

Deleting the rear set definitely is a viable option to remove unnecessary weight from the car. We also went down this route and have developed our own high-quality Club Sport Rear Seat Delete to give the weight-saving initiative a proper, clean finish in "factory style":

(Hope that is fine if I post this link here, otherwise please one of the moderators remove it)

Cheers

Beni

(other colour options are available but you would have to be patient :albino: )
