Post subject:  CV Joints
Any tips for getting new CV joints back on the axle? The fit of the new joints it very tight and I can't get them on far enough to get the circlip on. It is about a mm out at the moment. I have done a fair amount of hammering and it they don’t want to budge any further.

Are they on the right way round? iirc they have a chamfer on one side.

The clips are actually shaped, make sure the dished side faces the CV. Also check there is no burr raised on the clip, if necessary rub the clip & washers on a sheet of wet and dry. Sometimes with the shaft gripped tight in the vice & then bump the clip on using a socket or a piece of tube that is a reasonably tight fit on the shaft & belt it with a BFH!

Ok feeling kind of silly now but full points to bertelli_1. Amazing how things fit proerly when you put them the right way around.

Just an aside but it's been so cold the last few nights here that the grease froze in my CV joints. There was an odd scraping noise coming from the rear. After driving far enough they warmed up enough to sort themselves out. New joints & new grease. Now quiet as a mouse.
