Can anyone point me in the direction of some guidance on replacing the steering shaft on an S2 please? I managed to remove the pinch bolts today, but getting the UJs off the splines proved impossible :?. It seems that I need to create some slack in the system, but how?

Also, can anyone advise on removing the nuts to the caster mount eccentric bolts. Either mine have seized, or they are on bloody tight! I've soaked them in WD40 today, and will try them again once it's had a chance to penetrate, but any advice gratefully received :) .

Phil

You'll need to move the rack forward to clear the splines, which is difficult if lying underneath trying to do it on a jack or two! I bottled mine & let Northways do it

The caster nuts are FT not just tight! I stripped the wishbone off on mine & put it in a vice & even then they required all of my dainty body weight & a long breaker bar. They also took a lot of freeing up in the bush afterwards.

Thanks Jim :) . I was hoping to do most of the work myself, but it looks like I could be booking it in somewhere instead :( .

Highwayman, when I replaced the shaft on my 924, I only had to slide the rack forward by a couple of inches to get sufficient clearance to slide the shaft off the bottom spline. 924 does not have power steering so no pipework to contend with. I'm sure that someone will tell you if it can be done this way on a 944. No need to disconnect track rod ends etc on mine.....

Best of luck with it.
