Hey all! :D
Im in a pickle! Basically advice is needed! trying to repair my 2.7 944 on a shoe string budget, and can be done because of were i work, but basically do i drop in another engine, or repair the original lump!
basically the camshaft has snapped behind the pully, and bent 2 valves (exhaust) as far as we can tell so far!
I can get a 88 2.5 with 80k miles, tested for 350 pound, but would like to keep the original engine in really.
I cant find a camshaft for less than 500, exhaust valves are around the 90 mark and then there is all the obvious seals, gaskets, belts and pullies!
Obviously getting another engine, i would strip it, belt it, but i think this is looking the best option!
Anyone know anywere i can try other than the obvious that come up on the net?
Regards
Ian

Bit of a sod. I've just found out how much the other half is spending on parts for these things - can't say I'm a happy bunny!

Cheapest solution would be to drop in a good donor engine and mothball the original block. That way you can have a matching numbers car with a rebuilt nutter engine based on the original engine at a later date when your wallet has recovered.
Best of both worlds.

The turbo exhaust valves fit the 2.7 head (I have them in mine) and iirc are a lot cheaper. Also the 2.5 cam should fit, the profile will be slightly different but will be allot cheaper until a good used one shows up.

If the bores are good I would save the engine as they are rare and plenty of 944 engines have scored bores which may not show up in the short term.

Edited to add:- The turbo valves have a recess so will drop the compression ratio slightly, not sure it would be enough to notice though.
