I know of a few differences between oval dash and early dash cars, can anyone supply me with a comprehensive list of the differences between them? :)

On the 'New Car' thread you state - "I'm on Porsche no. 5, now going into number 6, which is probably 6 more than the average 22 year old, so I'm reasonably familiar with the period options".

With respect, why are you asking the question if you've already had so many Porsches?

Now if you don't mind, I'm one of the 'old duffers', as you kindly say on the same thread, who needs to go and clean his leather seats

I was referring to more in depth technical discrepencies for example on later 8 valve engines the timing belt tensioners are slightly different; the sort of thing bar-room experts can't find out by flicking through model brochures.

Don't polish them too much, if they are too shiny, you may slide off them when the next hedge is appraoching! ;)

I'm know expert but I think these are some -

Early non abs cars had different wheel offsets
Early cars had steel trailing arms later alloy
Cam belt tensioner on later cars was so called "auto spring tensioner"
Water pumps different I think
Different gbox
Speedo drive cable driven on early cars from front hub, late electronic from gbox
Calipers certainly on newer cars anyway
DME
Power steering??

I give up

Rich

From what I can remember from memory.... (and this is from a 924S late 160hbp model - 1988 944)

Dash (inc steering height)
Powered seats
Rear battery/ fuse box under bonnet
Bulk head
Headlight adjustment (don't think this was an option on an early 44 but it was on a late 24S)
Spring tensioner on the cam belt
Wheel offset
Speaker setup
Rear wiper was on pins mount on the early cars, bolt on on later cars
Full spare early cars, space saver on later cars

LATER CARS
passenger side electric seat
ABS as standard (didn't mention this as an option on early oval dash cars lol)
split rear seats after 89?

Ok I'm getting bored now
IIRC the 944 was 160bhp from the off and the 24 was detuned til 87-88 so no difference here

If you check clarks he usually describes any technical differences between late and early cars, this is very important for items like cam belt changes etc :-)

I think windscreens are different. Later cars have flush mounted screens.

It would be easier to list the common parts between 1985 model and 1986 model years cars. Brake calipers, offside front wing, rear hatch and wiper, boors and side glasses, steering wheel, torque tube, rear lamps, rear bumper, front bumper and bumper mounted lamps, PU.....

Pretty much everything else is different.
