My, my, have I divorced with all reason or just made the most sensible purchase of my last four decades on this earth? A beautiful Peacock Blue, linen leather interior S2 is now my sole car (Wife can chug around in the Zafira so kids can still enjoy some sense of normal life as tear around in a 2+2)! If Guards Red is the fastest 944 colour, surely this is the most 'pimp daddy' of them all?

Very nice - looks in great condition. What's the mileage and history of the car? Did you get a bargain?

Don't blow all your redundancy running it! Hope it's a good one. These cars are a sure fire antidote for depression. :) All the best job hunting. A friend of mine just found a job in a bank so there are jobs out there but you have to be persistent!

nice acquisition DA  and welcome

The only advice i would give you is to never park behind another car.....The 944 is so low at the front that other drivers cannot see your bonnet and just reverse onto you until they hear the bang then drive off grrrrrrr

 Ha, Ha Jim yes the distraction of a 944 ten years earlier may well have helped prevent the population explosion in our household! Thanks all for the warm welcome, looks like a great forum scene with some excellent tech support for these beautiful cars.

Still pinching myself that its actually mine, as I open up the garage doors for the 12 mile commute every morning (I'm one of the NHS middle managers that Cameron seems to think do nothing all day and hence my Primary Care Trust will soon be done away with).

Quite a story to me buying it...basically two weeks ago I walked out of my local video shop to see a vision in blue...broken down. Had a flat battery and I offered to push it for a jump start. Subsequently I learnt it was soon up for sale and the next day it was seen and brought. The guy I brought it from only lives a few streets away although I'd never seen the 944 before. Probably because he'd only done 3000k in three years in it. He also had a 964 RS which gave a lot of credibility to his talk on how much he admired and had looked after the 944.

It has 134,000 on the clock and Porsche dealer history up till 126,000. After that some independent specialist bills including a lovely new clutch 4000 miles ago. The paint is almost flawless though definatily a re-spray, and the interior is stunning but for a few cracks to the dash top, some dash lights not working and boot carpet a bit tatty. DIY jobs to do are some new discs as inside faces are corroded and try and get the handbrake working, event a hint of bite would be better than the vague, clonking rubbish I have at the moment!

Will get the top end inspected by Two-Plus-Two (a local independent Porsche specialist) in the next week or two, so fingers crossed it will check out OK. So far its averaged 21 mpg which is twice as much as the 1976 V12 XJS I used to make the trip in, so as to running costs I'm currently quids in!!

Remember it's not an auto like the Jag, so when you feel more confident with the Porsche you can change gear and your petrol consumption figures will improve :)

I average 28 mpg usually, but only 26 if I'm doing mostly local driving.

Congratulations on your new purchase :)

If you average 28 MPG you aren't trying hard enough ;) I average about 20-22 in my 944.

 Four weeks into ownership and the bills start to mount!! My ultra clean S2 had a bit of neglect underneath and has needed new discs, pads, ABS sensors, handbreak cables, power steering belt and new cam-box seals when the timing chain tensioner and belts were inspected + given a 12,000 mile service, plugs, filters etc (gear box oil was old, old, old and now fresh has made the shift much smoother!). £1275 all-in fitted by local Independent Porsche shop. That said it has transformed the feel of the car and i can now park on a hill without having to put bricks under the rear wheels to stop it rolling away!!! Also relieved to hear the timing chain, rollers, waterpump & belts are in fine fettle :D

Happy to pick-up costs on a 21 year old super car, but please let that be the last of 2011 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats just how they are. If you use it you may have some other hopefully small issue in 6 months. Depending on mileage 1.5K per year is what it takes to keep them fit. Thats if you don't skimp. You may have a couple of years bellow that. Then have a few big bills all at once. You get people who say they only spent £200 in the last 3 years. Then they sell it & some other poor beggar gets a massive bill. :|

Hi

Looks a really nice condition 944. I bought mine due to having 2 kids and wanting a proper sports car that I could take them with me and it wouldnt break the bank.

Enjoy.
:D
