Happy new year all!!

So a new year and the 944 has come up with a new problem.....the power steering has become very noisy. I have checked the fluid level and it is low (just touching the bottom of the dip stick) there also seems to be a damp patch under the reservoir but i am not sure if this is new or not.

Is the noise likely to be due to the low fluid level (possible leak) or is it more likely to be the power steering pump?

Thanks for your help!

James.

Can be low level, can also be cavitation due to poor pressure control. Worth dumping the fluid & refilling as it is quite cheap. If you find bubbles or aeration when running with the lid off then it could be the pump is dying. Jon Mitchell does decent recons.

Having had a leaking rack 4 a few months, the noise will most prob be low fuild level. Top up with ATF dexron 3. The clamps below the tank prob need nipping up a bit. Like jim said u could drain the system. From the banjo on the pump. And re fill. Will only need about 2ltr. Or about a pint if u just top it up.
