Last year I had the bumpers, skirts and bonnet re-sprayed on my Aventura coloured 968 as part of a minor restoration to get the car ready for a bit of summer driving. If you’re unfamiliar with the colour I uploaded some photos a few months back. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=34&start=536 The remaining paint work was polished and protected, but a rust bubble was discovered, on each of the rear quarters panels just behind the doors. To get this fixed properly I'll need both quarters re-sprayed (along with the rear panel above the bumper as it makes sense to do it) and here's my dilemma. If the re-quarters are re-sprayed I suspect it's going to be obvious to me and anyone with a keen eye because: 1. it's going to be tricky to blend in the new paint with the 17 year old paint on the doors. 2. it may make the remaining paint work look a bit tatty. In my mind I can: 1. Go back to the person that did last year’s paint work and get them to either re-spray the rest of the car or just the sides, leaving the roof original. 2. Go somewhere else and get everything but the bumpers/skirts re-sprayed. Part of my dilemma relates to the work I had done last year. Everything looks good but when I compare the paint work of the bonnet and wings under artificial light I can see that the original paint work has more depth and is sharper i.e. reflections are clearer. I don’t have the money to have the car re-sprayed by a Porsche Approved Body shop so would be interested to hear what experiences people have had with body shops down south. I’m based in Fleet which is junction 4a of the M3 so anything within 40 miles would be of interest to me. A guide to how much I should pay would be a big help too. Thanks in advance. |

Last year I had to have my rear bumper replaced on my 89 S2 due to accident damage. I was concerned about blending in the new paintwork with the existing on one rear wing . in the event I went to a local bodyshop that used water-based paints. They sprayed up 3x swatches to test against the car without ever seeing the car. When we checked them against the car I was amazed at the match of one of the swatches . It was indescernable from the 20 year old original 2x pack cellulose paintwork. I requested that the bodyshop did not overspray the wing to blend the paintwork and in the event it was the right decision. I defy anybody to tell that the bumper is not original . I would suggest you ask a local bodyshop that uses water-based paints to make a a few test spray swatches to see how well they can match before making a decision . They can mix up the paint from your car's paint code and experiment with the spraying tequnique etc. |

Hi it was an insurance job so I got a complete new bumper assembly and both bumper brackets (one of those cost over £110.00 !) total cost £1100.00 incl courtesy car. |

If your looking for a good bodyshop, try "Specialised paintwork" in reading. There off of juntion 12 m4, just round the corner from Porsche uk. They specialise in porsche and lotus. I just had both front wings repaired ( rust cut out, new metal fabricated and put in ), roof panel resprayed, and new windscreen fitted. My 944t is glacier blue, and they matched the colour and quality of the original paint really well. Cheers Craig. |

Another ++ for Specialized Paintwork in Reading. Do not use the paint shop that Northway's will recommend - Modern paint. |

Hi RD, the work i had done came to around £1000. This included cutting out some rust around the windscreen, and replacing with new metal, polishing some paint that looked a bit flat, and waxoiling the sills. I spoke to Karl ( who runs the place ) about doing a full body resto, he said between £3/5k depending on how far i wanted to go, and if they found any nasties. Thats for a show quality job though. Hi Guys, Thanks for the advice. I went down to Specialised today and had a long chat with Karl and got a couple of quotes. I'll report back on their work when I get it done in a few weeks time. For now I'm just praying they don't have to blend the paint into the doors as that'll add 50% to the bill. Thanks for your help. |

I made an appointment with SP of Reading today and will be dropping her off later in the month. I'll take some before and after pictures and post them if it comes out well. Also tempted to get my hands on some chip protectors that the 44 guys were talking about. Any idea if they are available for a 968? |

SP in Reading get my thumbs up too. The owner Karl was really helpful and the guys did a really nice job on the car. Although Aventura Green hasn't yet been mapped in water based paints the guys managed to get an almost perfect match and for my records took some photos of the work for my records. http://www.flickr.com/photos/probably_p ... 806608737/ Thanks for the advice guys. |

Chip protectors - have a look on ebay. They are sold specifically for the 944 as a kit, BUT, they also list the same chip protection material as sheets to cut to your own prefered shapes. Worth a look, perhaps? Bob |

Even with wider wheels filling the wheel arches, iv yet 2 get any really stone chips along my sill and rear 1/4. However my badge panel and bumper, seem 2 get hit at lot,
