Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself and more importantly my 'new' 944. I've had a Peugeot 206 GTI 180 for the past three years, but the times come to either give her up, or clear off the outstanding finance, and I decided a while ago that it was more sensible to do the later. Well long story short, I decided that a 944 might be a suitable replacement, and after searching all the usual sites I came across this. http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/PORSCHE+944/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146,N-20-4294967212-4294967213/advert.action?R=200813306720851&distance=31&postcode=ub4+8ax&channel=CARS&make=PORSCHE&model=944&min_pr=&max_pr=6000&max_mileage= I went along to view her, and although i'm no expert, she had what was clearly a very comprehensive service history, with everything appearing to have been done when it should have been - Belts - water pumps - cv joints etc. There are a couple of small patchs where the paint is bubbling slightly - about the size of 10p coins just below the windscreen and a couple of much smaller patches along the top edge of the w/s, but i'm hoping this is no biggie, and can be repaired by a local specialist. I must admit that right I'm really wondering whether I'm doing the right thing, and letting my Peugeot go is going to be very difficult, but there's no going back now ..... I'm picking her up tomorrow lunch time. D |

Hi, Thanks! I think i was a little stressed yesterday having had to juggle some credit cards to raise the money while I wait to sell my Peugeot, and having spent hours trying to sort out insurance. It's a bit of s step into the unknown for me and was all starting to seem like a bad idea. Feeling a lot better after a nights sleep though, and pretty excited about going to get it now. ![]() And yeah - the interior was one of the things that attracted me. ![]() D |

Hi, Great to hear that about Northway Jim. She just had a full service with them in March .... and yes the wheels were the other thing that attracted me : I'm going to take her into Charles Ivy and ask them to give me a quote for the body work touch ups tomorrow. They seem to be quite well known and are close to where I work. Has anyone got any experience with them? http://www.charlesivey.com/ D |

You'd be better finding a local paint man away from London. Have a chat around a couple of local car dealers & see who they use for used car prep. |

Hey, Thanks for that Jim. I guess i just kind of assumed it would be better to have it done at a specialists but my dad says that he knows someone good in Chiswick so maybe I'll get a quote from them to. I've booked it into Charles Ivy for an inspection on the 6th of May. Apparently it's £204.00's for that and they'll do a bodywork quote at the same time. It drove very well on the way back, and I've had some time to go through the service history properly. It’s had a new clutch, gearbox, fuel lines, water pump, discs, pads and shocks within the past 4 years, as well as the sills replaced or repaired and some body work. I'm hoping that covers all the high cost items for a while, but the inspection will really determine whether I keep hold of it or not. It seems to run very well, but there is a weird sound towards the end of braking, that sounds like grinding to me, and when turning the wheel on full lock for parking, there is a noise coming from the steering column which i can't quite describe, but sounds like it might need lubricating or something. Oh and lack of power steerings going to take some getting used to .... but thats a fault with me not it ![]() I know this is probably a stupid question, but is it possible to retrofit air con on a 944? I'm guessing the answer is no, or its cost prohibitive, but thought I’d ask. ![]() Thanks guys. D |

Ok looks like i'm wrong on the power steering front ... just found this: 'The power steering is progressive with full power assistance at low speed, which gradually decreases as the speed increases. In this way the traditional problem of apparent steering vagueness at higher speeds disappears.' Much heavier than my Peugeot then. ![]() D |

The power steering has feel. The Peugot doesn't. Once you get used to it you'le find it very good. At 100+ it's superb ![]() ![]() |
