I recently (about 800 miles ago) had a new clutch fitted to my 944s, (on the second attempt they got it right after putting in a 11 year old clutch that had corroded on the shelf even before it went in!) It now feels hard to get it into 1st and 2nd(you really have to push the stick hard to the right). think it has been slowly getting worse as i cant remember it being like that when I first drove it. there is also quite alot of play in the gear stick when in neutral. An RAC mechanic who came out to start it after the battery went flat said the clutch needed adjusting at the gearbox? but the mechanic who did the work says he remembers the gear linkage looking a bit worn, any ideas on which one if either it may be? |

Hi, It could be the bolt holding the shift rod to the linkage has backed out. Its supposed to have a lock wire holding it in place but your mechanic might have forgot to put it back. Take off the back left wheel and look at the top of the gearbox. You'll see the shift rod going through the bellhousing then where it joins the gearbox linkage. There will be a rubber boot, pull this back and check the bolt is tight. Let us know how you get on. All the best, Andy |
