Finally found the cause of my funny engine idle.

had been set up at JMG and because of how rich it had been running then set it slightly lean wit ha view that it would become a little richer as the engine cleared its pipes out. This is exactly what happened. The engine ran much smoother and I gains a few MPG.

A couple of weeks ago I could hear a hissing but the car still drove pretty much as it did. Took me a while with the WD40 but i found that number 1 injector top hat seal had gone AWOL. Any who I had a spare set so swapped an injector while I rebuilt the spare set.

Up one removal of injector 4 I found this.

Image

Most of the top hat missing and a large split in the seal.

So shes all fitted up with freshly sealed injectors and runs one hell of a lot smoother but is unsurprisingly rich again. So ill have another trip to the set up shop when i've saved a few penny's .

At least I got to the bottom of it in the end!

bullied ian (fire3500) into going for a last gasp summer flogging. We found a few nice roads, and gave it hell, both cars still seem to perform pretty much identically even after all these years!

May have had one or two moments of a more sideways nature than we planned but it was fun finding out just how the car really handles!

Good bye summer 2013!

Went down to my local Porsche specialist and breakers (Pie Performance) and spent a useful hour removing a set of headlight frames and the rest of the mechanism. Idea here is to get it all across to my local electroplaters and then 'blanket change' all mine. The restoration/renovation itch still needs scratching! I will get some photos up once work commences! :D

Ah, the advantages of living in an isolated bit of England, eh? :D

That 80mph all wheel slide didn't half wake me up... ...fortunately a little pedal ballet sorted that out, but cost me a few car lengths. That'll be 8 dampers, a family pack of rubber bushes and some clean trousers please.

At the weekend I rescued my car back from Chassis Clean in Manchester. They did a fantastic job of stripping the underside of the car off, cleaning and repairing the underseal and then neutralsing any small spots of rust before covering the underside and filling all of the cavities with Dinitrol. The correctly masked the brakes and exhaust. I'm very pleased with the results.

http://www.chassisclean.co.uk/

I'm quite happy with spending £475 now. Quotes available on request!

I searched for places closer to home, however I only found mechanics who wanted silly money for a dirty job, bodyshops who didn't want to make a mess in their spray room, or cowboys offering to use some rattle cans.

This isn't my car but you get the general idea:

Any chance of a few photos? That's only about 10 mins from where I work so was thinking I might take the 968 but don't really want things like the suspension covering in it.

Sadly not I'm afraid, but the guy who runs it is basically a farmer with a shed that has a pit of radiators - I'd just drop him an email and go and have a chat about what you want. I'm sure he'll mask off any specific bits you want kept clean.

His website is a bit ropey but if you take a look you'll see examples of their work.

This page in particular is pretty good if rather small pics:
http://115.124.111.172/chassisclean/?q=easyslider

...he said he is fully booked until February right now so doesn't even bother to advertise or attend shows to drum up business. It seems like they have a pretty good following with some other car clubs:

Took my S2 into Car Tech and Care yesterday morning to have my refurbished replacement cylinder head fitted along with hopefully a new set of hydraulic tappets (from early Golf GTI) replacement cam chain and tensioner pads, oil, filter and coolant and while its in I am having the cam/balance belts done again (only a year old but while they are off might as well). Going to have the bores checked and a few other things to see if I can't cure the long term rattle and other noises from the car.

Removed sunroof motor and parts and fitted manual sunroof clips. No more sunroof problems for, and its easier to bag on sunny days.

That's very interesting ! Can you shed a little more info on this mod please?

Yes, my sunroof would not fully close so I had been looking around for a manual solution to the problem. Trying to simplify parts as I go. I found a set of manual clips on ebay, took the sunroof out, removed the parts for the electric sunroof and the manual clips where a direct replacement. However when i came to remove the parts inside the car, the receiver for the clip would not fit. So I removed the motor, rail, and wormdrive parts leaving the plastic runners, with the headlining back up you can't see them and the clips lock tight on to them, so I didn't need to fit the receivers. I will take pictures when I am back in two weeks time.

Spent the whole day at JMG where Jon and Mark thoroughly checked the new car over. I picked up a few bits and pieces to get me started and we made a plan of action for the project going forward. Will be back in the coming weeks to get fuel and brake lines replaced. JMG are a fantastic bunch and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They were immensely patient with my endless questioning, very happy :D

I second that! A few months ago I took the trip down from Nottingham and sat around with them for a day and half, and they were friendly and communicative, as well as obviously skilled and knowledgeable.

Nottingham to Bournemouth and back is not the kind of trip to get your car sorted out that you do every day, but it was well worth it and I felt very happy and confident with the outcome, and the very reasonable price tag!
