Hope you had a good run on LeJog, I've only seen the top 3 result so far, My friends Andy & Iain came in 2nd this year in the BMW

I'm looking at building a 924 for similar useage to your car
can you give me some details on how you got on with Sumpguards, and underbody protection etc
so I know what I'm letting myself in for

thanks

Hello chaps, back home now, still on a high.

Will write up a reiew tomorrow. The car was awesome, 2nd fastest out of 71 up the Rest and be Thankful hillclimb, we managed a 1.33 I think.

More tomorrow once my hands have stopped bleeding. That's no joke sadly...

Ok, thanks, will have a tinker and see what's available.

Re regs, will post up link to HERO/CSA's ASR's on Monday, essentially MSA or FIA regs for historic road rallying, depends what permit they're running an event under.

Are these the regs that you were running under?

http://www.heroevents.eu/Events/RegulationsEligibility/

http://www.heroevents.eu/Events/Howtogo ... rRallying/

I am a bit confused by the eligibility criteria on age as it seems to stop at Pre 1981, but the 944 was introduced in 1982. As far as I am aware the MSA have introduced a new post historic category for 1981-1986 car, is this where your car fits, because the regs as published in the HERO web site don't seem to have caught up with that yet!

Could your car do the "Tour Britannia" as well?

Pre-31/12/81 Andy, making a few right hand drive 944s eligible. Most of the 1981-built cars were left hand drive though. I do wonder whenever I see an X registered RHD car, when its birthday is.

I should wonder about the Ys too, seeing that Bens car is eligible despite its later registration. Im going to venture that it was re-registered to make it appear newer (possible until the introduction of the A prefix), because PCGB couldnt get enough 944s to meet their orders, so it certainly wasnt left in a car park unsold...

Pretty much exactly what Simon said above.

Mine is a 1981 manufactured car and looks like it came over to the UK on German plates and was then re-registered at some point in 1982 onto its UK plate.

Also as said above there is now an MSA/FIA Category 4 historic rally class from Jan 1 2014 which is from (manufactured not registered date) Jan 1st 1982 - Dec 31st 1986.

Just been trawling through the LeJog results, seems we were 2nd quickest up the Rest & Be Thankful hillclimb out of 72 cars, only 1 second off the quickets time. Happy(ish) with that - I know if I didn't showboat around the last hairpin for the crowd we would have been fastest by a couple of seconds. Oh well, lesson learned!

My money is on it being a NATO forces car bought in Germany tax free for its first 12 months before coming back to the UK with its forces owner, or sold on for a small profit.

You may be onto something there. Either way it goes up hills and through forests like a b*****d so I'm happy!

Thanks for the clarification; the new Category 4 class looks very interesting for 944 owners, although I actually think that the cut off date is 31 Dec 1985 meaning that my 924S isn't eligible :-(

Ah yes, you're right, 1985 cars and earlier it is.

I wonder if Turbos are allowed? A 220 944T would be a very nice thing to rally.

Thanks

Mixing in American made-up names for models causes confusion. Your car is a 1986 (model year) and these cars were built from September 1985 onwards. If it was built during 1985 then it will qualify. I dont believe that engine manufactue date is important, particularly at this level, but an '85 or '86 built 'MY86' will carry the same markings.
