I swapped over sunroof sills, the turbo wasn't leaking, but wasn't sitting flush ethir.

I tryed a mixer off inner and outter. The turbo had a genuine inner, the texture was the same as the wind deflector. The black car one was thinner and shiner, but did offer the best fit. Swapped between the 2 about 5 times b4 settling on the original inner seal.

The outer seals were differnt thickness, not by much but had a noticeable weight difference.

Got the roof sitting nearly flush but not perfect, there's some slight play in the conners.!

Sunroof can be pushed deeper from above, and can be pushed up from inside. There's quite abit off flex more on the passengers side then the drivers, when pushed in the middle outside eage of the from above. Sunroof slightly jumps when the hacth is slammed shut.

Iv moved the plastic female lock pins ( bits that the lifting arms lock in 2 ) from inside the sunroof trying 2 make it lock tighter. Not a lot off joy.

Iv noticed the lock position 4 the lifting arms is slightly different in the female bit from side 2 side even though they operate at the same length. and this makes the left side have move play then the right.

The plastic is not worn, and the pins seem same thickness.

I played with this 4 about 2 hours,

Now the interesting part
My battery went almost flat. I did start the car up half way though.
I had lights e.c.t but the alarm would kicking b4 the car would turn over. Leaving me 2 turn the car around by myself and push 2 a hill, get it rolling jump in and bump it! Not easy jumping while moving! Tired 2 bump in 1st didn't really work. Car just stop
Sitting the car I let it roll( much safer then jumping once pushed) and bumped in 2nd easy.

Drove the car about 1 hour but still only reading just over 12? Car been used daily and has covered nearly 2000 miles in the last few weeks.

Hi, I have replaced a sunroof cog before, it sounds like you might need to take the gears apart and move the locking arm back a few notches, so that the sunroof shuts tight but be careful as the plastic cogs in the gearbox are only plastic and can break - it's possible you are missing some notches/gears on the cog already and they might need replacing.

REF your battery dying..maybe the battery is not charging well (the teminals might need cleaning) and is failing or maybe your altenator is failing and you may just need new bushes on the altenator if you are not getting a good charge. Firstly try cleaning the battery terminals...Do you have a spare good battery?...first try this, if that doesn't fix it, take the altenator out and replace the bushes...also, check that you have the cooling hose connected up for the altenator (mine was missing)...uggghhh it's too late for this! 8)

Thanks,
sunroof cogs I have plenty off exprence with, changed them 3 times on my last one. Lifting arms retract 2 the close positin together and lift the roof evenly. So can't be out a notic. The cogs are working fine, but I do have 3 spears now.

My main issue is the sun roof don't seem a perfect fit. And there's play with slight forcefull manipulation by hand. Iv been told this is common or just taken as just.

Battery on my other 944 is flat. The grounds point seem very clean on the turbo, I cleaned my black ones. But these don't seem 2 need it. I was just surprised it went flat so easy, or is it more an issue with the alarm kicking in on a low charge turn over. The turbo turns over quicker than my last 944.

what the hell is 3 spears? ugga ugga...(that's caveman talk by the way - unfortuantley no caveman smilies)

erm, I don't know then. I don't think batteries are supposed to go flat so you must have a problem somewhere along the line.

Sorry guys.

How many off you has a flush fitting sunroof? If so or not what type sills are used?
Also is there any movement when press upon from above.

Thanks

The sunroof on my S2 fits flush and as far as I know has genuine inner and outer seals, no real movement when you press on the roof. My old 924S had a none genuine outer but genuine inner seal and that never really fit well.

Maybe this thread could be changed to what would I have done to my 944 today if it hadn't been raining

Seriously this weather has delayed my summer project by weeks at present there is a 6" Deep puddle where I should be laying on my back fitting my exhaust.

Hmm! I have perfected the art of throwing all the tools in the box and running inside when the weather turns, waiting for it to clear up, and rushing out again.

Today I tried to troubleshoot the passenger door mirror, it looks like there is no power getting to the mirror at all (except for the defogger). I took the middle dash section apart to look at the wiring at the toggle switch and I found a 4 pin plug coming out of the toggle change switch unplugged. Looked for possible wires to connect it to, found 4 that had been cut, tried to connect them and move the joystick on the drivers door for the mirror adjustment but they started doing some really strange stuff, for example the central locking tried to work, the car made a really strange noise like it was trying to start almost, so decided those wires were for something else - maybe the alarm? and the central locking switch which was also disconnected and no plug in sight. Hate it when you find a previous owner has bodged something. found that from the 4 pin plug, 2 connections seem to be getting a live when the toggle swich is moved and the other two seem to work both mirrors at the same time. Looked at the wiring diagram for the mirrors, looked like the underground train map of tokyo and gave up.

I remember reading somewhere that the adjustment joystick also works on negative polarity so I think I need to do a bit more reasearch, maybe route some new wires through to the mirror. If anyone has any advice or explainations that would be great.

Just had a thought, (ref: the bit I've highlighted in PINK) the headlight adjustment roller is also not connected up, so I have taken that out of the panel but I'm wondering if one of the wires hanging loose is for that? are they quite noisey when they operate? can you phyiscally feel them adjusting while sitting in the car (with engine off)?...hmmm, sorry but I haven't got anything better to do right now.

The mirrors are pretty noisy, not sure you could feel them move through the car though.

Not the mirrors, the headlight adjustment...I know what the mirror adjustment sounds like.

Thanks :)

In that case, no the headlight adjusters should be near silent, at least they were on my last car.

Fitted rear Konis, adjusted hand brake pads, emptied ashtray and put Slick 50 in the transaxle. Guess what the whine has gone :)

Today I refitted loads of bits onto the front of the engine, identified TDC on all pulleys and learnt the belt tensioning procedure. Immensely satisfying.

What wasn't so satisfying was the aches and pains of lying on my back trying to take the starter motor off, only to discover that one of the bolts has striped the thread inside, so won't come off. Now how am I going to stop the engine moving to check the tension on the crank pulley bolt?
