Parts removed from the car are expected to be in paint by the end of the week. Here's the bonnet, roof and spoiler...

Thanks Endoman. I only really set out to get the rust on the wing fixed, but in the end I thought why not get every bit done now and a full respray. Get the car how I want it now and hope it stays good for the next ten years or so, rather than having it done bit by bit over the same time.

I'm just looking forward to getting it back, sorting out a few other bits and then enjoying it come Spring :D

Almost finished now. Just a few bits to tidy up and spoiler to go back. Should be having its MOT on Monday.

MOT failed on badly earthed, so not working, indicator. Being retested today.

Also it is being black-waxoyled underneath and into all the nooks and crannies. Hopefully that should keep the rust at bay. And the badges, decals and stone guards are going on, so should be all finished today. :D :bounce: :bounce: :D

Wow! just joined the forum a few days ago and read this thread, its a great thread and very interesting to see how the job has evolved. Im guessing from the rust issues you have had my 944 will need the same treatment to cure the rust. Good luck with the MOT retest. Great looking car and well worth the wait. On a good note the timing of the repair has managed to miss the road salt on our roads and saved you valuable storage space. :P

Hi Matt, thanks for the feedback I'm glad to hear you've read through the thread and got something from it. I can't say for sure that yours will need the same, but yes I think it's fairly common that they go in these areas. Mine had some extra rust at the front of the passenger wing and behind the wheels for good measure, usually it's the bottoms of the wings and rear sill/arch that goes.

One thing the bodyshop did with mine that may be different for others was that he fabricated everything and wouldn't use the premade repair peices you can get. His view was they're often not big enough, so better to make you're own if you can. The result looks pretty good and almost done and back with me.

I hope you're right about the snow/salt. I'm not sure though, it's been trying to snow around us for the last couple of days. It will be just my luck if it starts just as I get the car back.

Best of luck with your own repairs, keep us updated. :D

Loz how did you get on with the MOT retest. The current standard of mine is quite bad, needs new sills probably not inner sills as it gets close to the floor pan, might just get away with that. The offside rear quarter panel has gone like yours and definately down to acidic area from battery which is now a sealed battery. the apeture for the rear hatch offside locking mechanism needs rework as that rusted through aswell. I got the car over Christmas along with piles of receipts and paperwork of past jobs much of it carried out at Hartech so in my book is worth salvageing, fingers crossed. I will be looking at getting new panels rather that fabricating them, CM Porsche in Telford do these very cheaply and are imported in from the states so is probably more cost effective go this route as I will be cutting and welding myself. The job certainly will not be complete this year as my life is booked up for the forseeable future. Overall the 944S seems to be a good starting point to learn about working on these cars, if it does go pear shaped could always turn it into a track car. Brake pipes, fuel pipes, front & rear suspension both need looking at aswell as retorsioning afterwards. Then the engine mmmmmm, it tries to start but starter motor needs a tap with the nylon mallet first so starter needs rework which hopefully is not to big of a job. I will post up a thread once work starts to take place.
