Did a few nice little jobs today. Restored and installed new leather gaiter and gearstick plus a lovely leather steering wheel lozenge all from JMG. Topped up the oil, empties and washed out the screenwash reservoir and refilled. Just little things but all made me happy!

Also did something I've been meaning to do for ages - bought a large plastic box with lid and put every single 944 spare in it so everything is together. Feels good and no more searching through the garage.

Sometimes the small jobs are the most satisfying ones.
How are you getting on with the Dansk? and how long did it take for delivery? I ordered mine monday and I'm still waiting for it...

The Dansk has settled down a bit now, still much louder than the stock piece but I do love it, 2500rpm in 3rd is a joyous rumble!

Mine took 2/3 days delivery from order I think.

Dropped my ebay engine off at the engine man to look over it
Never met him before but has built a couple of engines for my mate
He reckons at first glance that it wont need much work( thank goodness)
He is a bit of a perfectionist so am happy to let him sort it all for me
Seems to know all about these engines although he has not done many.

Just need to sort out buying head set, bottom end gaskets and seals, bearings, belts, tensioners, tensioner pads and chain etc etc etc £££££££££

This week I have had to use my 944 every day as my van is out of action, unfortunately covering it in road filth. Feeling very guilty, I took it through a reputable hand car wash service involving pressure washers and a small army of men with sponges. It was here that I discovered just how well the rear hatch does not seal! A steady drip through the hinges and latches.

Not sure if I want to do that again, although they did clean it extremely well, eradicating the tree sap stains etc that I couldn't seem to get off with my dodo juice and sponge.

Al, have you adjusted your boot pins? (See my minor post from last week...)
This also helps your boot release to work and stops exhaust gases creeping in.

Undo the nut, then screw the pins in to about 1 - 1.5cm of thread showing. Try and shut the boot. If it shuts, tighten the pins until one or both doesn't catch, then unwind slightly. Once done, your boot pins will be fully tensioned, the boot should seal and the remote release will work rather than re-catching like they do if too loose.

Worth a go?

Hi Andy, thanks for the tip. I did this last year when I replaced the struts. The main leak was at the top of the hatch, so I'm thinking either the rubber seal, or the glass bonding.

Visited a car show in Belgium over the weekend so gave the car a good clean today and replaced the bonnet struts which had started to go. Noticed that the bonnet light to illuminate the engine isn't working.

One task down, another discovered

Fitted the DME (Scivision) MAF kit and picked up my renovated seats from Leathercare, brilliant job. As JM suggested with the low (bloody freezing) ambient temperature the engine did not respond at all well until it had warmed up, but when it had, wow, noticeable improvement. So bit of a pig for a short daily commute much better on a long run, would work well on a track car. Worth it? No, not really but I like to play.

O2 sensor fitted they had to remove the manifold in the end....so Ive treated it to some STP injector cleaner and some STP fuel additive and a nice full tank of super unleaded. Lets see if the MPG improves now.

It took me a while to work out that the bonnet light only works with the headlights on.

Car is now in my garage waiting to me to start stripping the front end off for water pump and belts! Need to confirm my order (and when they can deliver it as I have left it way to late!) tomorrow.

got my 944 turbo bodyshell mounted on a 360 degree rollover jig, and started cutting out the sills ready for repair! found out the inner sills are pretty much as new! which is a massive bonus!
see my build thread for step by step pics of the repairs!

Now a fully paid up member and JMG are sorting out my parts and fingers crossed they can get them to me on Tuesday :) Monday will be spent stripping everything down ready for belts and water pump

Any advice or tips greatly received from those who have done the car before.

I have done this once on my car, and once on someone else's car, and the problem I ran into both times, was not getting a decent seal on the water pump. Make sure you neatly scrape off all the old gasket to a flat surface.

Also put the new thermostat in with the pump removed, and make sure the circlip eyes are at 12:00 to make it easier to remove in situ.

Read the torque wrench properly and don't overtighten anything! Aluminium is soft compared to iron engines.

PM me if you get stuck.
